Well... *choke* .... $1500 is a little rich for my blood, but I still enjoy hearing her sing. She gave a good performance.

Serious question here and not one intended to poke fun or belittle: What is it about Babs that compels people to plunk down thousands of dollars to see her perform?
I'm sorry, I have watched early 60s videotapes where she sings and even went to see the movie Yentl. I don't get it. Why is she sooo popular? Her vocal skills, to me, are average at best. Then again, my tastes lean towards a different kind of songstress.

Badu, not many women can shriek through five octaves.
In 1959 her voice was like bell chimes and nearly as quick. She could extend from the lowest to the highest notes in an instant, sometimes so quickly and sponteneously that she seemed to surprise herself. Maybe people hope to be in attendance should she ever recover that ability.
A few years ago she sold out a San Jose,Ca concert with interest so high that tickets were being scalped for as much as $4,000 per. The same weekend the Rolling Stones played Oakland Coliseum (CA), and had to extend the concert for two extra days just to pay the bills.

When I was younger I first heard Barbra perform, I was in awe of her voice, Truthfully I never heard someone with such a strong and clear voice. It really brought chills to me then and still does now.No, cannot affored 1500.00 a ticket to a concert, but I would listen to her anytime and drop survivor or any of the virtual shows so much in vogue today-------- BTW she looks great in that picture-----

I seen it because I was ticked they took off one of my top fave shows "That 70's Show" to put on the concert. Grr!
She does have a beautiful voice and I loved her in the 70's but am not a fan of hers now. Not sure if I got tired of Rosie O'Donnell's fawning over her or the fact she constantly says how she is quitting yet when I turn around she is performing again. Reminds me of many other "retired" performers who are all over the place: Celine, Garth....

Oh, don't get me going on Celine Dion! What a self-absorbed, self-important, me-me-me, screechy ear-drum-busting waste of air time SHE is. By the way, did you know that she is the ONLY person who has ever had a baby, and that her baby is more beautiful and perfect than anyone else's in the whole world? When I saw the obscene extravagance of her wedding (I was at a loss for words, if you can picture that!), followed by an even MORE obscenely extravagant renewing of the vows with a "Cleopatra of the Nile" theme where she and her husband were carried in on those fancy bed throne things, I was nauseated.

Rosie and her brown nose can join ol Babs in yukkyland as far as Im concerned. And Im not impressed with Celine Whatseverface either. Cant stand madonna, but I would prefer her to Barbara. (I dont even like calling her Babs. Unless it ticks her off, then I would be more than happy to use that name).

KRS and Zelda: But people actually pay $1,500 a pop to see her perform, which is what is mind boggling to me. That's like choosing between paying your monthly house note, or opting for several quick hours of entertainment.
Sorry, I can't afford that kind of extravagance. I like many artists and while I have champagne tastes, I am on a Koolaid budget
Shellsputer: ^5. I can't wait for Grammy night. It's going to be fun watching Slim Shady and Sir Reggie duet on stage. Wonder what their musical selection will be? Elton jammed "Philadelphia Freedom" last year with (I believe) the Backstreet Boys as his backup.
