Procedure, regardless of price, is instructive in this case.

Can't remember the exact figure, something under $40. With lower sales and higher fees, I can't afford to lose anything.

Well, you could always drive to the U.S. and cash the money order.

Bill... I've always thought of Canadiens as wannabe Americans (except when the US ticks off the rest of the world). Most Canadiens huddle within 50 miles of the US border... lol.

Amber's customer needed a visual message.

nice addition helen. that would avoid that problem altogether... unless the buyer ignores it.

Bill K, you may be surprised to know that when I tried that once before, they wouldn't change it. If I remember, it was because the address was to Canada. I sent one once to a friend in the US, and they wouldn't cash it for her either, saying it was "third party".

I find that I can accept US checks here with no problem, but there is no way I can send a Canadian check to the US and get it cashed, even from our US account here in a Canadian bank. I think Canada is much more lenient. By the way, we lived in the US for years, and have a daughter and daughter-in-law born there.

Helen,

That graphic is great but I tried pictures when I was fed up with getting the Green Money orders .......didn't work. Buyers don't 'read' pictures either!

Bill, if we had a trip to Washington State planned we used to save up some of our Green 'no-no's' and take them with us but we had an awful time cashing them at Post Offices there, especially one I remember from New York. The Postal clerk made us wait while he read through pages and pages of numbers from their 'Forged Money Order' list.

PayPal is worth the money that I have to pay them...far less hassle!

Ebay bidder who has no bank account,no paypal account but manage to bid and buy the wrong postal order and keeps saying the ball is in your court, deal with it ! is more savvy than you and I.
You dont have to bid on a razor,do it buy it now or get a Chinese cleaver, your family will thank you after you are 'thru'.

OK- return the money order, ship the item with the request that she sends cash. The next time you're asked if you accept money orders, answer NO.

A better policy may be to say no before you are asked.

And by the way, Pixiamom, asking the customer to send cash may extend the hassle...leading to a reader's use of her "straight edge" to "open a vein".

The solution is so simple I'm amazed no one's thought of it.

We invade Canada.

You guys have no army, anyway, how tough could it be? If we cross the border into Quebec, the Frenchies'll just surrender.

I hope you guys have oil, because we're going to need it soon.

The Canadian tar sand region has more synthetic oil reserves than Saudi Arabia!
They are also exploring in the Yukon Territories and the Artic !
They have tons of natural gas, with a smaller population than ours, they dont need that much gas so they are sending them down to us.
They are also striking deals with China as China needs it more than us.
If I still remmeber my geography, you can sail down the St Lawrence seaway and enter the Great Lakes and vice versa??

Michael Moore had a movie early in his filming career called Canadian Bacon starring John Candy, Alan Alda, Rhea Pearlman and many others. It came out after MM released Roger and Me.

Basically, a bunch of dumb Americans invade Canada. Here is the plot summary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Bacon
