It's nothing new, but it is creating mass confusion for sellers because 11main has no stated policy for products other than that it has to be approved.
The issue is trust and if sellers are already complaining about having problems, it will make it more difficult for them to succeed. I understand this is the process that they chose, but there are no written standards in place for sellers to decipher. Sellers have to spend time learning a new system, writing description listings, and then hope their listing is accepted by someone who may or may not be an expert.
As an example when discussing it with their rep who called me, I detailed the fact that many of my lamps do not include shades. Shades can be very expensive to ship, often $20-40 extra because of the size and are susceptible to being damaged easily. It is less expensive for the buyer to purchase their own shade and get the exact one they want. I asked if these lamps would be rejected. I was told they didn't know and I would have to create listings to see if that would happen. Why would I want to waste my time to have something declined?

Main St said they dont want to be Ebay or flea market, they want to be like Nordstrom.
Until it opens for business,Ebay is still the place to sell?
What can we do?
I used to have my shop on Yahoo shopping and I like their format, unfortunately I dont have much traffic.

I just applied to 11 Main Street last week and got invited to join yesterday. I figure I may as well try a few items and see?

I clicked the link to register as a seller and it took me to Vendio. Is that correct??
I don't see anything about 11 Main Street here.

Any editing to be done to your 11 Main st shop is done thru Vendio or Auctiva.
maybe you have to log off Vendio and go to Main site and see what happens?

either click the link in a new browser or delete your cookies. that should reset it. I had to do the same thing.

Thanks Shag; that did the trick. Of course, I couldn't use Chrome as it still has issues but I used Firefox and got right to where I needed to be.
Has anyone started selling yet? I think CS told me that they have 11,000 active sellers and 45,000 more in holding.

My shop is open for business but so far no sales.
Shag,
as for your lampshades,I dont think they ever think of people who buy the lamp and not the lampshade.Ebay is so diverse, you can find practically anything everything but not a new site, may be you can skip the lamps and try something else.
So far I see jewelry and clothes

Most quality lamps are actually sold without the shade because a lampshade is a personal choice. Shape, size, color, texture are all important factors.
With that said, you will rarely find a lamp store that has lamps on display without shades, but the shade can be exchanged or upgraded.
Sure, you can walk into IKEA or Target and find lamps with shades, but you definitely get what you pay for.
Whether 11main is successful or not remains to be seen. I don't see the need for their site as there are plenty of alternatives out there.
My issue with this site is the inefficiency of the process. Instead of vetting sellers up front to make sure the seller cares about their products, they are focused on vetting the merchandise. This requires a seller to expend a lot of time learning a new system, creating a listing, then submitting it for review. Then you have to hope your item is accepted after 11main reviews your proposed listing.
I am in the middle of change, gearing up for fall and working a new job that has many complex components. 11main isn't on my radar at the moment. I am actually more interested in setting up my own site.

you can transfer your Ebay listings to your Main 11 store, you dont have to list them one by one.
They do look at the seller-his customer service level, but best of all,the customers do not buy the seller, they buy his products,so look at what he is selling, make sense,
there are many Ebay sellers I prefer not to share a venue with .
Take some sellers on Ebay, they sell something they have around the house-panty hose, toaster, coffee maker and then they found a dropshipper of cell phones and other popular gadgets on internet and decide to list some on Ebay.
If one can find these dropshippers,I bet many can,so soon Ebay is flooded with sellers who have no stock, but rely on the same handful of dropshippers,in the end,no one makes any money.

Shag I totally agree about your statement on lamp & shades. I've sold at least a hundred lamps on eBay rarely is the shade included.
I have however offer the shade free if the buyer wants to pay the additional shipping cost. I wonder if that would fly on 11 Main St.

I have done the same when there is a shade worth shipping. Generally I offer it but also explain why I don't generally include the shade - condition, added cost of shipping, etc.

I dont sell lamps, but I am just wondering,if a buyer has to shop locally for a shade,he may as well shop for the lamp as well?
Unless it is a lamp he must have and cant find it locally.

Lost - the kind of lamps that sells on eBay (or anywhere online) aren't being made anymore for the most part. The shades are mostly missing, stained or damaged in someway when you find them.
On my treasure hunts - a good day is when I find a nice vintage lamp or chair.
