UNIONS are the best example of INTERNAL TERRORIST

Not.

If you think unions are outdated then you have bought into the enfranchisement of america:
-every commercial is about lifestyle not product
-you own one share of stock so you read the business section like a fortune 100'er.
-you are white collar and therefore don't have issues with health benefits, retirement etc.

Truth of the matter is...if you work for a living then you have unions to thank.

If you have bought into the concept of "middle class as affluent" then you are in denial.
Most americans don't have diversified enough portfolios to deal with a major downturn. Or enough protected assets to offset business upset.
Until you do, you are a working stiff. Unions are under rated.

Ever wonder why there isn't a "Labor" section of the newspaper? Because labor has been dealing with the brainwashing of america that "Unions are unnecessary."

Guess what folks...Unions were a powerful way for workers (read people) to communicate ideas about how they should be treated in the work place.

Disenfranchising workers from that unity/community is a great way to sell them on the idea that by being a business owner (ie stockholder) they had power.

Sigh...now that the market is funking out...we only have our Pepsico to turn to.

Got to read something besides the New York Times.
corporate media does not work for anyone but....the corporations!

doh!

SgtMike,

That is exactly what I suspected.

Personally I can see the good points and the bad points of unions throughout their history to the present.

A few years ago I heard that we can thank the unions for the 40 hour work week. Is this true? Anyone?

I was disappointed that the repeat motion law that Clinton signed, is being thrown out the window by Bush. Worker -in my opinion- need help with this condition. It is very hard on the body.

Hi Linda_K!

Like most stories, there are two sides to this one. On the one hand, without unions workers get unreasonably spat on and a lot of harm results, on the other hand, unions can wield unreasonable power and a lot of harm results.

In my opinion, the biggest threat to America is in the White House.

Thank you. While completely untrue, it does provide a logical reason for your previous nonsense post.

Were you somehow suggesting that I was straddling the fence on this issue? If so, it's an interesting conclusion given the fact that I hadn't made any posts for against the Bush move. I'm guessing that you formed that conclusion based on facts that aren't there. But then again, that does seem to be par for the course.

For what it's worth, IMO he did the right thing.

If it weren't for unions that fat black kid would have been working instead of bellybumping that little girl to death. In fact, she'd have been working too.

Fantastic

My father was a labor union leader so I
know a "little bit" about this subject and I
feel very strongly that all labor unions
must have the freedom to strike and
negotiate without government interference.

Thanks for your excellent post.

No dubyasdamon,

I did not think that you were straddling
the fence at all. I was referring to
another poster...sort of a private joke.

I see that your posts have degraded to the level of name calling. As in previous threads, when you can't win on the merits you just change your tactics to smoke and mirrors.

Superb post, Capriole. I was brought up in a "union" family. To this day, I will not cross a picket line. I can't tell you how many times this has "inconvenienced" me, but I'm willing to pay the price. Why do you think Corporate America has transferred so much of their work force to third world countries? Cheap labor, child exploitation, lack of safety regulations, no retirement or pension benefits, and slave wages. Exactly the same treatment the American worker was subjected to at the turn of the century, before the advent of unions. The right to strike is a powerful tool for Labor. Think about that when you're sitting around your patio this September 3rd, guzzling beer and chowing down hamburgers. Unions are the reason you will be able to do that on that particular Monday.

dumbya is just another word for public figure and you, dubyasman must take the bad with the good as does your hero since you have the name, distorted to your taste, that is in part a nickname for G.W. Bush. Could be worse. Someone might call you dubyasbootlicker.
