OK - so i finally get a new digital camera hp r818 5 megapixel to replace my hp 2 mp 6 year old camera

I have called hp 3x & 4 hours later I still cant get anywhere with their farmed out technicians in India ... they are telling me that with the better technology and dip and clarity of the mega pixel the images are large and can not be reduced in KB size - which i can not understand how they can not come down to 10-50 kb which is where all my images are pretty much sized on vendio now from my old digital camera

after being cropped and even reducing the camera down to use only 1 or 3 of the 5 megapixels available ( then loosing quality of the image and the reason why i bought the new camera) ...the images are coming in at 300-400 kb for the most part - some larger than that that wont even upolad to vendio ...

issues i have :

1. I will use extreme amounts of space on the vendio site and go into big time $ for my image hosting

2. the images will be so large that people on dial up will take forever to be able to see the image on the screen

I am doing something wrong?

hp reps - 3 so far - cant figure out how to get the kb 's down - which i can not understand

what have you people done - any suggestions - i am ready to return this expensive camera and stay with my old 1 megapixel hp or is there another camera out there that works good with vendio and ebay that you can suggest - very fustrated here

thanks all for your help

Hi Stacy,

Can't help you with your camera settings however if your images are too large, please review the options below to resolve the problem:

1. If you are using Windows XP, you may use our XPress Image Publisher tool which will allow you to resize the images as you upload them. Below is a link you can use to get more information and to download Xpress Publisher:

http://www.vendio.com/my/client/publisher.html

2. You can resize the images locally and try reuploading again. Below is a link to a basic image sizing tutorial:

http://imagehost.vendio.com/help/imgsize.html

Keep in mind that the tutorial is very general, and may not match what you see in your image editor. Your image editor should have some online documentation or manuals that will provide directions on resizing and saving images.

3. You can run a compression uitilty on your images so they will be smaller in kilobytes, while still retaining the same area, color, and resolution. We recommend http://www.spinwave.com/ for free online file compression. You can also download jpeg and gif compression utilities for a minimal charge from http://www.downloads.com.

NOTE: Once your images are uploaded, you can enable the "click to enlarge" function which will display a smaller version of your images in your listings and allow your buyers to click the image to view the full size version. To enable this feature, go to My Account -> Global Preferences -> Item Listing Options and check the "Automatically scale down large images for faster download and cleaner presentation." option.
To download Vendio XPress Image Publisher, please use this URL:

http://www.vendio.com/my/client/publisher.html

You will find more information about the application on this page as well.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Ed

i am using xp - that program can make them smaller from down from 500kp or more down to 50 kb or so

it does not seem like a camera issue but software issue to "compress " them smaller

i have clicked the download now button but i dont see the web publishing wizard come up to go from there????

Hello again Stacy,

Lets keep the conversation in one area, please.

If you downloaded the XPress Image Publisher and clicked to install, you probably did successfully install it. This feature is only a line of text that goes in the registry so there's no installation process like with an actual application.

Try this - go to your image folder. If you don't see a sidebar with the File and Folder tasks menu click Tools -> Folder Options, and under the "General" tab, check "Show common tasks in folders", then Apply and OK. Once the sidebar is added, you should see the "Publish this folder to the Web" option. Click this, and on the third page (Where do you want to publish these files) you should see the Vendio Image Hosting icon. If you don't please let us know.

Thanks,

Ed

To find Vendio Publisher do this
CLICK at the same time the WINDOWS key and E key on your keyboard. ( windows key usually has a tiny windows logo flag on it) or right click the start menu and choose explore................................... the following is image help to guide you through uploading and reducing images with theVendio Publisher ....
If you open explorer and see the side bar like image 2 then skip following sentence------ or you don't see that sidebar after x-ing of the folders at left side then go to top of Explorer folder to TOOLS/ Folder options------ box opens and make sure you have "Use common task in folders" dot in the circle by those words on the General Tab.
Maybe these directions are clearer to understand???? Good luck. Hope I put these images in right order . These are some of my folders yourswill be different just find the folder with your images you want to upload..

Making folder tree go away brings up the common task if you have it enabled like above statement .... Like this image common task is at left where folder tree was that you just X-ed off.
