When I was a kid the two biggest teen idols were Michael Jackson and Donny Osmond. Both had hit records with and without their brothers. Both had cartoon shows on Saturday mornings and fans of their own. Donny was usually looked down on by both critics and the general public alike. Michael was looked upon as the greatest talent to ever hit show biz. Reading MrsSantaClaus' post about Donny eating her nachos got me to thinking about the ways their lives had turned out. Donny is a father of (I believe) five sons and really seems to be happy and well adjusted in his personal life. Michael on the other hand... While no one is perfect,it's not hard for me to say that I admire Donny Osmond a heck of a lot more than Michael Jackson!

Donny has mentioned on a show once that he used to wish his life had turned out like Michael Jackson's. He is glad now that it didn't.
At the show he did a little bit of jamming and started to sing ABC - looked up and smiled and said. "Sorry, that was the other guy." He then went into his own song to thunderous applause.
I really think it has a lot to do with the upbringing. Michael seems to come from a family with lots of troubles while Donny's is very close knit. Without the benefit of a strong safety net you end up with people like Michael.
That said, though, Michael's actions with children are still unexcusable.
