I have recently started using AU, and I don't understand why it is soooo slooooow getting to the site, and moving around the site! I know it's not my computer - I bop around all over the place and don't have any problems until I get to the UA site. It takes forever for the pages to load - and sometimes it just times out and I never get there. I notice when I go to the site I'm coming in through a cgi ID number. Is this why? Is there anything I can do to make my navigation through UA any faster?
Thanks, Linda

Hi Linda:

First, thanks for using AU.

Do understand that we know the importance of a fast, quick-loading site. Indeed, we've made many changes over the past several months to speed the delivery of information to our customers. We are continuing to do so and I expect some dramatic improvements in a relatively short time. We take your issue very seriously.

That said, let me suggest some strategies that you can employ to maximize your speed when listing items.

AU is unique in the online auction field because we maintain a central database with many entry points. Similar to services such as Geocities and Hypermart, we have numerous servers and numerous ways to reach that central database.

Because most traffic comes to the AU server, other servers for affiliated auction sites that also link directly to the central database of auctions sometimes are underutilized

Think of it kind of like a 25 lane freeway where the AU lane has bumper-to-bumper traffic while another auction site -- think lane -- may be virtually empty with traffic proceeding at a rapid rate.

This means you could list using www.pennauctions.com, the affiliated site of "The Morning Call" newspaper in Allentown, Pennsylvania and zip right along.

Indeed, there are well over 20 such auction sites in the AU network that, because of time zones or other differences in traffic patterns, will probably be faster.

I recommend this because if you pull out of the AU lane over to one of the others, it also helps AU run faster too.

For a complete list of AU affiliated auction sites, check www.aun.com . Most of the auction sites, but not all, let you list as well as view. You can use your AU userID and password on these sites as well.

One final thought. Use these other sites for listing of auctions or even searching and buying but if you're thinking of registering, please use the main AU site.

I hope that this helps in the short term but in the long term, rest assured that the issue you raise is being addressed in a big way.

Thank you very much for your reply - it makes perfect sense. I'm glad it is an issue that is being addressed.
