Ok, what is up? It is taking like 5 mins for the main page to load and I can't even get into myauctions without dying of old age. I thought the new look was supposed to be faster?
I was doing some "byte" comparisons and, with a significant slimming on the old site, we were looking at 110-120kb for a front page load.
With the new auctions.com front page, I've seen it load in as small a space as 36kb and no larger than 40 kb.
That said, I don't know the specific problem you encountered but I too have noticed some times when the site has dragged on.
I actually get a great view of it when I use Acrobat 4.0 as a browser because it identifies every item of the web page and you can see where "its sticking" ... if you will.
So what's the problem?
In those forays, I have noticed is that our ad serving company ... double-click is almost always the slowest item to load.
I'm not going to say that we don't have some responsibility for some of this -- some of the banners appearing are huge -- but I think the person involved possibly internal I'm checking) they don't always specify the ad banner size. Just like with a picture in an auction, this can stop a browser dead in its tracks.
The solution, BTW, is to simply hit the stop button. Heck, you didn't want to see the banner ad anyway
