I've noticed Item Specifics are not retained when you hit the save button after filling in all the listing information. I recently had several internal data failure messages on auctions that didn't launch. Didn't know if the two were related. I've been adding them manually after launch as a work around.

Oops, I spoke to soon. Launches just started failing again!

Hello,

Are these completely new listings? Relists? Or listings that are being created using profiles?

Regards,
Nathan

Hello Nathan,

You helped me earlier in the week with internal database error notices on relists. There were no problems with new listings but the last round of DB errors has been new listings.

I create off line in SM and upload. Then I tweek online and launch. The tweeking always had to do with the fact that Item Specifics never seemed to launch correctly from my offline SM so I adjusted them online and launched. I assumed they were working but haven't checked. I also haven't tried launching directly from my offline program in awhile.

We hadn't made any connections between Item Specifics and the database error notices earlier in the week. The problem seems to be sporadic. You mentioned it may be an eBay problem. I just wanted to update and add the IS possibility.

Hello,

Please provide more details about one of the listings where the item specifics will not save. What is the category in which you are listing, and the item specifics options that you are selecting for the category? Please let me know so that I can try and duplicate the problem. Also, are the item specifics being removed when you save the listing, or when you launch the listing?

Regards,
Nathan

There is a failed launch in my pending currently. I've attempted to launch 3 times. Each time I started over, selected item specifics of cufflinks and hit save. Then I went back and launched the auction. When ever I go back and look after I hit save the item specifics are no longer indicated (blank). Whenever I go back to edit after an error, the item specifics are missing. They are not saving when you hit the save button. I have had other instances in other categories but I haven't noted them. I will note them and let you know.

Hello,

I created a pending listing in your account in category 10294 with a "Product" item specific of "cufflinks". I saved the pending listing with the title "Vendio Test", and when I went back into the pending listing the item specific information was still there. Please open that pending listing, and let us know whether or not you still see the item specifics there. Also confirm that if you create a listing with item specifics, and do NOT launch the listing, but only click save, that when you go back into the listing the item specifics are no longer there.

Regards,
Nathan

Hi Nate,
Thanks for the test. When I clicked save and went back in and the item specific you entered "cufflinks" was gone. Also I am confirming that if I create a listing with item specifics, and do NOT launch the listing, but only click save, that when I go back into the listing the item specifics are no longer there. I actually thought if I changed anything in the listing I had to click save before I launched the listing.

Now that we've determined that the item specifics aren't saving is there anything I can do here that will change that? Otherwise I'll just keep working around it until I see Vendio/Ebay have resolved and I'm no longer getting Database failure messages. (I'm easy! Life's too short! Whatever works!)

Any other thoughts on this?

Hello,

As Nate mentioned we haven't initially been able to recreate this issue with IE7 and XP, but we'll continue to test this for any possible errors.
If you have it available to you, check to see if FireFox gives you the same result when working with the item specifics. If you don't already you can download it for free from Mozilla.org.

Chris

Thanks Chris, I'll try FireFox.

I have learned from experimenting with this that I get an Internal Database Error with any auctions I launch or relist if I enter Item Specifics. The Item Specifics do not save and the auction is eroded and fails.

If I leave the Item Specifics blank, my auctions and relists will launch successfully. Then I have to to to eBay to revise the listing where the Item Specifics will save successfully. Doing that is faster than dealing with all the launch errors.

I've been having the problem for 3 or 4 weeks and it doesn't look like it's going away until you find the glitch.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this issue and thought my hap-hazzard solution might help someone in the meantime.

Hello,

Let us know the results of your efforts. Hopefully since we cannot recreate the error with IE7 here that the FireFox switch will help you retain your Item Specifics so you don't run into the error upon launch.

Regards,
Chris
