I got a huge amount of error messages when I was re-listing tonight. 240 Error: "The item cannot be listed or modified" It's been happening a little here and there, but this was the most at one time. And then the irritating thing is all I have to do it re-submit and it goes through. Can you please explain what is going on. I had 21 errors, I resubmitted, then about half those launched okay, and the I re-submitted the leftover again and they finally launched okay. So what's going on?

Hello,

The next time this happens, please leave one of the errored listings in the "All Pending" section of your account, so that we can take a look. Also, in most cases eBay will provide a more detailed error message for error 240 if you do an eBay preview from the Vendio listing page.

Regards,
Nathan

I will try to leave one, but I typically am trying to sell the items, not have them sitting in my pending folder. I can tell you which ones they were if you want to look at them launched. I changed NOTHING - just re-sumbitted once or twice and they launched. There has never been any indication of what's wrong when I've previewed - that goes back years when I've seen this error message before.

Am I the only one with this problem? I launched about 82 auctions tonight and about half of them errored out at least once. I would re-submit and most would launch the second time - but some took 3 and 4 times to finally launch. I have left one in my pending file as you requested. Please let me know when I can launch it.

Hello,

The best way to troubleshoot these 'error 240' issues, is when it happens click to do an 'eBay preview' so you can see exactly what eBay is taking an issue with.

When we 'eBay Preview' the one you left in your account, this is the error message eBay is displaying:

Since eBay is only just recently enforcing these new rules about what you can and cannot say regarding insurance, you can get past their filters by just resubmitting over and over until they miss it and allow it to post - but you will eventually want to correct this verbiage in your custom listing text so it's a non-issue in the future (as eventually they won't get past the eBay filter even if you just keep pushing them.)

Chris

I disregarded that message because I don't have any things in my description that says I'm not responsible for items without insurance or anything of that nature. I'm assuming that you mean they are simply looking for the keyword "insurance" to assume that the seller is stating something about not being responsible, etc. I think, of course, this is ridiculous, but I will see what I can do to eliminate that verbage or re-word it so as not to attract this problem.

Hello,

It really doesn't matter the actual ordering of the words, eBay just scans for certain words and then flags the listing.

There are a number of sellers who run into problems because their listings say "I cannot take money orders anymore" - eBay's scanner see's "money order" in the listing and fails it without taking into account that it says they do NOT take it.

When you revise your custom listing text, just do an eBay preview and check below the breakdown of the eBay costs to see if they are still flagging it or not.

Regards,
Chris
