This has happened before, but very rarely, and I just want to know why it happens. If you search in my post-sale items "12" rudolph", one item will pop up. I want to use that listing and re-list, but when I try, it says I can't, that it has already been re-listed. I currently do not have another one listed like that. So I don't understand why it won't let me list. If I couldn't use a listing that I already "re-listed", then I should get that message ALL THE TIME! Please explain. Thanks!

Hello,

You have already relisted this item, as item number 380303007915 on eBay.

title Singing/Animated 14" RUDOLPH Standing Reindeer by GEMMY
opened 2010-12-27 19:45:21
closed 2011-01-03 19:45:21

Since you have not clicked to relist item number 380303007915 yet, you can do so without this error message about the item having been already relisted.

The system will only prevent you from re-relisting an item when a more recent relist is also available to relist off of in your closed section.

Chris

Chris, you're going to have to be a little more clear because I have no idea what you're talking about. I use old listings all the time, every day, to sell the same or similar item. All day long, I click on an item to re-list and have no problem. The example I listed above really isn't gelling with me, because the item I gave as an example is NOT the standing Rudolph. I said to search 12" Rudolph. There should only be the one item that pops up. That is the one I was trying to re-list. There are no others listed that exact way. I finally used an old listing with the "standing" one just so I could move on.

To give another example, if you search "Peanut Butter Solution", you should see several listed. I just sold one today. If I had another one, I could go back to the first one and re-list, even though I used it to re-list the 2nd one and so on. I basically am COPYING the listing, not re-launching, so I do not understand your explanation.

Hello,

The short answer - if you want to relist that item again, you will need to do so by going to item number 380303007915 in your closed section and opting to relist off of it instead (as that is the most recent occurrence of this item.)

Longer explanation:
You said it yourself, you relist off of items all the time, make some changes, then post the item.

Your correct in that there is only one item in your closed section with 12" rudolph in the title. This is the item you have clicked to relist, which you did so and edited to become the listing mentioned above.

The system was originally designed to prevent accidentally relisting the same item twice, so sometimes an item will get stuck (as you have randomly noticed over the years, though rarely happens anymore) with this status of saying it was already relisted.

The message is correct, it has been relisted, and done so as the item mentioned above. Unfortunately there is no way currently to reset that 'already relisted' flag for those items, where when you do run into this error message you will need to use the item that you have since relisted (and it has since closed) to re-list off of for the next occurrence.

If you have any other questions please let us know.

Regards,
Chris

One thing I just want to make sure I understand is - this is a FREAK error - and is not technically supposed to happen, correct? I think that would have been the appropriate response to start it off instead of making it seem logical.

Also, there would be no way for me to know WHICH item I used to re-list. Is there a way I could do that? I'm surprised you could figure out which one I used to re-list.

Hello,

My apologies for not stating initially, what you had originally suspected, in that this is not a normal behavior that you see on a regular basis.

there would be no way for me to know WHICH item I used to re-list. Is there a way I could do that?

No, there is no way you could have tracked down that information with this specific scenario.

Regards,
Chris
