I often have potential bidders ask me shipping costs to their zip code. If I am not where my item is, and I am often not as I am back and forth between 2 states at the moment, there is no way I can check what I put in for shipping weight, is there? I think all I can do is set WBN off or on.
I'm afraid I don't have a concrete suggestion as to how to deal with this. It would be a lot more complicated than my other suggestion.

On the Set WBN page, you can click the "edit" link to see what you entered for a package weight. Maybe it would be a good idea for us to make this value more easily accessible once it is entered. I will be sure to pass this suggestion along.
