If they do not select the US as their location, it will only allow them to pick your international shipping option. They wont even see what the US shipping charges would have been from checkout.

But don't you have to put in an amount? We can't put in an amount at the time of listing if we don't know the country the buyer will be from in the end - all international shipping will be different based on the country it's going to.

Why can't we choose "Calculated" for International Shipping? How are we supposed to fill in an amount when we have no idea who we will end up selling to? Right now the International Shipping choices are a waste without the calculation!

Christoper...to test this I pretended to check out from France in one of my auctions...it showed the US and International charges I offer as an option. So it is not working as promised for me. What's up?

How could your product developers not have thought out the calculated international shipping? If you want to see how shipping should work, go to Ebay and just do what they have done! I cannot believe that you all would spend so much time revamping the shipping and not take into account sellers who ship internationally. This should be a priority or the international shipping is a complete waste!

I use Global Priority Mail for my shipping overseas. It is based on all that can fit in a certain size envelope, if I list that as an option it uses my domestic formula to the entire order which is wrong.

On the global perferences I only see USPS domestic charges. I do not see any International Air Letter etc. So I put a custom shipping method call "International S/H".

Hello cellstuff2,
On the Global Preferences page, just below the regular shipping options you will see a box you can check labeled: 'Offer international shipping'
If its your goal to force your international customers to pay a specific fixed amount when going through the checkout process, just check one if the options in this section and enter the cost beside it. Now when your buyers checkout and select anything other than a US location, they will never see the domestic shipping rates - only what you have setup in this international section.
This is the same for the listing page itself where you setup your shipping costs, just check the box to say you will offer international shipping and select a carrier and cost and your done.

We fully understand, though, that this restriction affects most of your existing items. We evaluate relaxing it, so that international shipping becomes available, unless specifically not offered with newly created or edited items.

Well, so now what do we do to our international buyers that want to check out and can't due to the new "stop"?
Even if it is fixed priced shipping, does anyone have a fixed priced international shipping for anything? One pound of anything can cost very differently to ship to Canada or to Taiwan! How can I preset the shipping amount before hand?
Is there something I'm not getting? I really don't understand how someone would have thought this might help with our international check outs.... am I missing something??

One other thing.
If I have checked the "accept interntational shipping" option I am expected to insert an amount, correct?
So, if I just can't do that, due to important issues explained in other links, do I just uncheck "accept international shipping" option? Does that mean my international customers will not be able to check out at all anymore?
If that's the case... at least before they could check out!

I have 3 or 4 places that inform my international buyers to contact me so I can adjust the shipping amount prior to checking out.
Of course, many pay no attention, pay the domestic shipping charge and then are upset because I charge them more than the check out said they had to pay.
So if I claim I don't accept international shipping, what will happen to my international buyers? What do they see?

HOW I'M DEALING WITH FIXED INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING (this works as long as you ship all your international packages the same or similar ways--i.e. USPS Airmail Letter or Parcel post):
In the 1st blank box under "International Shipping" I enter "Airmail to CANADA," then I fill in a fixed rate.
In the 2nd blank box I enter "Airmail OUTSIDE US & Canada," then I enter a 2nd fixed rate.
A more detailed explanation:
After you've checked the "offer international shipping" box, simply fill in 2 fixed amounts for international shipping in the blank fields that are provided below the ones Vendio has filled in for you: one for "Canada" & one for "all other countries." I'm not sure if anyone has noticed, but aside from Canada, USPS airmail shipping costs to all other countries are very similar. Before I list an auction, I calculate the fixed shipping cost as if it was going to the U.K. since I ship most of my items there and the cost to ship to the UK is comparable to the cost to ship to Australia, Japan, etc. Do a little experimentation on the USPS website to see which of the countries you typically ship to has the highest shipping cost and use that one.
These designations show up nicely in your auction & checkout too. I did a test auction and went through checkout with a Canadian & then a Japanese address, and in both cases, I was only allowed to select from these two options. Theoretically, someone from Japan could select the Canada shipping rate, but hey, that's a risk I'm willing to take considering all the time I'm going to save not having to go in and mess with every international sale I make.
