Can you request PM shipping at Amazon? I found a text book for my son-they just got their list today-but media mail isn't going to cut it. He'll need it sooner than that. I don't mind paying the difference-but didn't see a place where I could request it. Anyone? Thanks.

Hi Susan,

I assume that you're talking about a textbook listed in Amazon's Marketplace? If so, you will have to contact the seller directly...Amazon does not make a provision for Marketplace sellers to offer PM as an option. The only option officially available through the Marketplace is Media Mail. Since they only reimburse Marketplace sellers $2.23 per order for shipping, this does not cover the cost of PM. Some sellers may be willing to ship it PM for no additional cost I imagine, but I think that many sellers would be happy to oblige with the PM shipping if you would offer to send the difference in the shipping cost to them. Either way, if the book is being offered at a good price, it won't hurt to give it a try.

I should probably add that you may want to check the cost of the PM for that particular book with the seller...the last textbook I shipped weighed 7 lbs, which could be costly.

As a seller, I routinely offer to ship Priority to my buyers if they promise to send a check or pay me by PayPal. But I agree that shipping a heavy textbook that way will be really expensive! It might not actually take that long to ship Media Mail if you live fairly close to the seller. But it's dicey.

Don't forget to request that the seller use your entire 9 digit zipcode. This alone can speed MM up by a couple days...

According to my post office Bound Printed Matter arrives about the same time frame. Just be sure the seller puts 'return postage guaranteed' on it so it doesn't end up on the auctionblock. I have sent a few heavier books this way and they arrived 3-4 days. I was impressed.
