What is the legal way to handle Sales Tax and Marketplace?

I pondered this, too, and talked to a few people about it. I don't have a definitive answer, but seems to me that we sellers act as drop-shippers for Amazon. We have no way to assess a sales tax to buyers in our own state. I think the tax is owed by Amazon to buyers in THEIR state.

That's the way it is on half.com---you don't worry about the sales tax, even if the sale is to someone in your own state, because the sale is not actually YOURS, it's half.com's.

Half.com collects and turns in sales tax for all sales to people in THEIR state, and no other sales tax is owed. They don't make this at all clear to people who lists items for sale with them, and I guess Amazon doesn't, either.

Amazon is not collecting sales tax for Washington buyers though.
