What do you all think?

I think they already have! No auction tab that I have seen since Christmas, forcing Canadians off their site, advertising marketplace ( and notice how this site is mostly concerned with issues that are not about auctions which is a high indicator of the lack of business that auctions do) , and I think people that sold mainly on auctions have left this site to return to ebay or tried out yahoo ( which is also self-destructing at this very moment. ) I think if you read the comments made on amazon's own discussion board re auctions ending soon, featured auctions only on half the page etc . that with a little bit of effort amazon could be in the race for first place with ebay! I know I used to love amazon but have gone back to selling with ebay and am pulling all my auctions out within the next 2 weeks ( of course they are saying goodbye as I don't have a true us account only a us account in Toronto and I am really upset with them) !!!! Good luck to all of you who have continued to use amazon auctions but I think most are switching over to marketplace.

What? Nobody told me! And I have over 2000 listings still up!(g)

For once I'm glad about the stock market effect on Amazon. I think if Amazon closed their auction site it would have a drastic effect on their stock market position especially in countries like Germany and England where it's a big lead in for them.

I think they really have screwed up a good thing too but I'm hanging on because it only take one light bulb to light a room if you get what I mean.

I think they either will bring fees inline with Marketplace fees or will change management course. I don't think anyone is in charge of auctions as a whole at the moment.

I still love the way their auction system works for me. I wish there were more customers and more action on the site. I can't list on Dollar Deals anymore as I kept getting the stuffing kicked out of me $$wise.

Frankly I don't know why they don't take this opportunity to take business away from ePAY and Yapoo??

I find this hard to believe, tho we dont sell in Amazon anymore, when we had problems, they always told us that Auction Sellers Rule.

Bare with them and make the effort to use the system to your liking, buyers do, we bookmark auction pages we buy from not home pages, would get lost and go elsewhere otherwise, no large site that offers beyond auctions can do this, alphabetical order on the home page shows AUCTIONS in the proper order.

Amazon is in a tough situation where it's seeking increased growth and profits at the same time and it's not working as you can tell by the 15% reduction in work force. The auction segment is probably their best avenue for growth plus least costly to operate, so I wouldn't expect them to discontinue autions.

Better think again. The auctions and Market Place aren't even a blip or footnote on Amazon's balance sheet.

Market Place and auctions will probably be gone within 90 days.

Yes, I think amazon will do away with auctions! they already have in the sense that no auction tab in weeks though when they first did revolving tabs they promised that the tab would appear at least every 3 days. Without the tab , most buyers would not know that auctions exist and you constantly need new buyers. Their latest gimmick of having every seller use one click ( though if you go to their seller connection board ~ amazon often takes 14 days to put the money in your account while they take as much interest as they can from your money.) will lose a lot of canadian sellers who sell hard to find children books in the states . With less and less sellers , there will be less and less bidders~ one has only to look at yahoo and their declining item base and look at the sales ~ they too have destroyed their site.
Amazon will try and collect the most money they can from sellers on the auction site ( and z shops) with the least possible means of support for sellers. Good luck to all the sellers left at amazon ( I think only book people are left for the majority of sellers) and I am off to ebay! Regardless of what I think of such a large auction site , stuff sells and can sell very high. Not suz 23 anywhere else.

Be aware- as the payee of one-click, you are a creditor of Amazon's, you will be in line for your money with all other creditors should things go too far.

Keep a very close watch on the cash situation.

Wow, what doom sayers! Amazon has it's problems but most are fixable. I don't know if they will fix any however. They have taken huge steps backwards from when I came on board.

I can't help but think that the folks in Amazon who are looking for more revenues can't but help to see the opportunity because of seller frustration on Yahoo and Ebay.

Then again?

The fact is that marketplace and auctions probably don't take up that much resources at this point. They're all set up and functioning and with support cut....

And they are all drawing in larger fees. Inn essence we are Amazon's store. No warehouse, no purchasing stock, no carrying fees? Pretty good huh?

Market Place is not a bad model, but it does not have the scale it will need to survive at Amazon.

I find that Marketplace is only good situationly. If I had to list my 2000+ auctions on Marketplace I'd leave. It's an add on to my regular business but not a replacement.
