I know everyone is upset. I am also. Try this:
1) Log on to Paypal and get the new screen. Don't click any of the three buttons.
2) Log out and then log back in and the previous log on screen is gone and your account screen is there.
3) Withdraw all your money. I did. Then log out.
4) Log on again and the three button screen is gone.
Apparently the three button log on screen is a one shot deal to see how many people they can snag into checking out the accounts. If you don't click any of the three buttons you are ok. If you do you've had it.

I got that message also, and now you can't even log on for you can't get to the site.

Too late for me.
I am upset now & won't allow myself to make a final decision until I have calmed down...BUT: I do believe that this is the last straw! I have been wondered whether to keep on with PayPal, dithering back and forth. I do like the convenience of it, true. But I am turned off by their way of treating users and the their dishonesty coated with false assurances.
Thank you, PayPal! You are pushing me into making my decision--in fact making it easier for me to come to a certain conclusion. That PayPal just isn't worth it.

Apparently they have shut the site down, for I can't even get a home page to come up.

Yep, just checked & got the same result. I am just glad that when I decided to take a short vacation from auctions I withdrew almost everything from the account, leaving only $20 there.

Glad I got in in time to withdraw every last cent. Now all I have to do is wait until they come back on line and close my account.

I can't get in at all. Can't even get the page to load.
Under the circumstances, just as well, I suppose.

Sounds like they may be having a "run on the bank"?

Maybe they were reading this board and saw my post on how to get in and withdraw your money and decided to shut it down and fix that problem.

I have signed up for paypal but haven't used them yet, while its true that many people may fell "lied" to. I also have a regular merchant account and let me assure you even with the new fees its still a good deal. They are providing a service and and should make a profit. There will be many unhappy people out there if they go bankrupt holding your money, besides loosing the convienence of the service.
Just my 2 cents worth but maybe you should take a deep breath and think it over

Hi,
There does seem to be some access issues at the moment and we are working on the issue.
I realize that a lot of users are upset, but I would like to add that the click-through page went to the active user base and it is not impacted by the amount you have in your account or whether you are verified or not.
I will not be able to respond to all individual inquires, but I would ask that all comments be directed to Partner Services whenever possible.

PayPalDamon: Well, how about addressing the issue of users not be allowed, and not being warned that they wouldn't be allowed, to back out of the update process? Several of us just wanted to take a look at the process & found ourselves upgraded before we knew it!
How about telling those of us unfortunate enough to be caught this way how to reverse it?!?

bunnicula -- There's been 3 people that I know of, that were "snookered" into upgrading (for lack of a better word): you, snip, and me.
And that's just from here on AW in the middle of the night!
Just think how many other people there must be, and will be tomorrow when lots more people are up!
Smooth move, PayPal.

Hi bunnicula,
I can't go through all the threads at the moment. I have been here since early this morning and I am trying to post some information.

HI bunnicula,
If this happened, I need the steps you did so I can have QA test it and check with engineering. No accounts are automatically upgraded and upgrades are only to occur if the user clicks on the applicable field. Please feel free to forward this to me at [email protected]

PayPalDamon: I wanted to see what was involved in the upgrade--what info would be asked for (someone on another thread said there were all kinds of questions to be answered), etc. I planned to back out before the final "click."
I clicked on the upgrade button that appears on my account page.
It asked me if I wanted to retain my current account name or put in a business name. It also asked me to read the TOS. I did.
I expected the next screen to have all the questions I had been led to expect--instead I found myself upgraded!! No questions. No final button to click to show my approval of an upgrade. Just "You are now upgraded."
So--how do I downgrade?
edited to change "their" to "there"

Hi bunnicula,
Can you shoot me the email address on your account as well? I need QA/engineering to look at this. Thank you for the step-by-step.
