In case you don't see it in the Partner Services area, here is PayPalDamon's official clarification of an issue that has been bothering many of us today:
The accounts we are asking to upgrade are the ones that sell goods/merchandise on a regular or part-time basis for a business purpose (profit) and not someone that sells personal items from time-to-time.
There you have it... In black and white...
Since I sell "personal items from time-to-time" I now have absolutely no reason to upgrade.
Thanks Damon!

Yet another chapter in the long-running PayPal saga. Tune in tomorrow folks when we hear Damon say....

Yeah, that's this week's promise.

hmmmmm, and how are they going to differentiate (sp) between the two.
my bet is they will treat those of us who are selling personal items as lowlife dishonest types. hope I'm wrong, I have 20+ years of accumulated "junk" I'd really like to move out of my rapidly shrinking home.

They never asked me to upgrade but then my sales have been so pitiful they KNOW I'm not making a profit.
How sad for me

How do they know it's personal items? How do they know it's not for profit? What if the items I sell are personal but I expect to make a profit? How do they define personal?

So, if I just sell things not intending to make a profit--I am OK! Don't ALL of us auction without the intent to make profit, but just to generously support Ebay?

No Profit = No Business account required?
Soooo...Amazon, which loses millions each year, could operate with a PayPal personal account? But I cannot?

Everyone,
Once again, threads concerning PayPal are dominating the eBay Outlook. I am going to lock this thread as well as several others, and ask that you confine your comments concerning PayPal to the one PayPal thread that will be left open in the eBay Outlook, or start a new thread in the Partner Services Forum.
Thanks for your cooperation.
