Hi,
Any advise? I had a bidder win 4 of my auctions yesterday and I cannot contact her. e-mails to her eBay ID are returned "user unknown". She has good feedback. It is a Mindspring address.

Try using the "send this email to a friend" facility on the auction page.
Going through ebays' servers will often do the trick.

Bob, Downunder but never down.

"User unknown" is a dead email address. You have three options get their contact info and call, wait for them to contact you and/or email safeharbor and get them NARU'd.

I allow for contact period as per standard transactions. After that all bets are off. If there's a second bidder don't waste any time, see if they'll buy.

It's against ebay's policy to be registered through an invalid email address. When I email a customer and it bounces back, I forward it immediately to [email protected] and tell them the email address for user: XXXXXXX is invalid. They NARU them immediately. Then I contact the 2nd highest bidder.

Valerie, a few months ago my email was down for 18 hours due to a problem with my ISP.

I had someone do exactly what you suggested.

I can't say here what I really think of people who do things like this, but I assure you, once I got my account restored, you would get the most scathing neg I could fit into 80 characters.

It must be nice to never expereince computer problems, but when dealing with us mortals, why not at least give the person a chance to fix the problem.

I really don't want to cause her any trouble yet. Her feedback is very good and she has postive feedbacks left just a few days ago for auctions that ended only a week ago. I'm sure something must be wrong. I am going to try contacting some of the recent sellers that left her feedback to see if they know something.

Maybe there's an epidemic of bad emails out there. I sent a shipping notice yesterday, and got a bounceback with a "user unknown" subject line--the reason given was that "XXXXX is not accepting email from this sender". Got the same response using the link from the auction listing. Hopefully this buyer will let me know when the merchandise arrives, since it looks like I won't be able to write and ask.

Pick up the phone and call the bidder! I just don't get why people won't do this.

I had a bidder this weekend win an auction and the address was returned both "address unknown" and "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX is not accepting email from this user."

I picked up the phone, talked for about 30 seconds and left a message for the person to call me back. 15 minutes later the person called me back. The money is on the way.

There was a problem with the email. This happens all of the time.
