I had a bidder tonight send payment via paypal for an auction that still has 3 hours to go. Now this person will mostly likely get it because it is not a real hot item (but you never know and I have it at a very low price someone else could still bid), but gee whiz. Now if this bidder (a newbie only has one postive) doesn't win it is going to be a little of a hassle. This ever happen to you? Is this commmon? I did write them back nicely saying, that in the future they should wait until the auction is over and they KNOW they won the item before sending payment. Another reason I am will be glad to get ride of shall I dare say it. You all know the one I am talking about ; ), but they can always do it with the others also. Gee it isn't even a great item just average. This one took me off gaurd. I thought nothing would surprise me when it came to auctions anymore.

Just proves you've still got enough optimism to be alive
Is your Paypal account still open? Then bounce the damned $ back to this daffy character at EOA if he's not high bidder. (Of course, if you got roped into the "business" category, you're getting charged for the pleasure, yes? Yuck.)
If you've got a few auctions left to go with Paypal, you can always open e.g. a Yahoo or Hotmail email account and use THAT as your Paypal email, which'll make it impossible for bidders whom you've not informed of your Paypal email address to "beam" you money uninvited.

Saddly yes, I haven't been able to close it yet because I have about 400 auctions on Yahoo that I manually have to take the logo off. I didn't think I would be getting anymore payments though via paypal, but just in case didn't want to go back on what I had in my auctions. I should be done tommorrow and then should be able to close it down all together thank goodness.
I am wondering though, if I should as I take down the paypal logo and put up the paydirect and switch to billpoint, if I should state in all my auctions right off that I don't take paypal so they know in the future? (yea I know guys another run on sentence) I don't want to put the buyers off in my auctions, but don't want to deal with paypal anymore. What are others doing that are closing their paypal accounts? are you stating right in your auctions that you don't take paypal?

You know that is a great idea. I think I will do that. thanks!
My sympathies. It'll all be over soon >>
I am not upset just surprised me. I e-mailed her back and told her if she didn't win the auction I would send the money back and thanked her. After all I would rather have someone anxious to pay then a deadbeat : )

I had a bidder send payment via Paydirect for an auction that still had 6 days left to go. It was a Dutch auction and I guess he figured that he would be a high bidder anyway. I just sent the item and made a note tp leave feedback later if indeed he was a high bidder. (By the way, this auction was for a small computer upgrade guide that I wrote, and I can't run out.)
Just today, a lady sent a PayPal payment for an item in another Dutch auction that had 3 days left to go. And she didn't even bid! I just sent her the the item with a BIG thank-you.
So, to answer your question, yes. It does happen but not that often as far as I can tell.
