I assume most of you are keeping your ebay records on the computer? I presently do not use an automated system for managing my auctions, and my records are by hand.I've looked at a few accounting programs but they are WAY too fancy and complex for my immediate needs.
What I want to do is just be able to enter data for incoming payments and outgoing expenses, and have the program keep track of my net income for tax reporting.

The simplest thing to use is either a program like Quicken or a spreadsheet program like Excel or Lotus 1-2-3. Spreadsheets can be set up in mere minutes, the basic formulas that do the work are very easy to write(they even can write them for you in some cases).

thanks, mballai. I tried figuring out Excel at work one time and gave up in frustration. Maybe it's time to hire the husband as a computer consultant? ; - )

Keziak, Quicken will do exactly what you are saying! That's what I use, because I don't need a lot of fancy reports or extra info.
Quicken is very (I mean that) simple to use. Shows me what money I brought in and what money I paid out in really nice charts.

sheesh...I must be one of the very few that still does it the old way, using a ledger. I prefer paper and pen method, hard copy in front of me at all times. Costs, inventory, incoming, outgoing, and profits, if any. Just a personal preference since I seem to spend so much time on the computer, I rather enjoy just putting all of it out in front of me on the dining room table, and going through it one by one, then filing it away. Changes the computer pace for me.
If you want to do something in Excel and it's very straightforward ledger style, I could put something together for you. I have been using spreadsheets for seven years and can do this stuff in my sleep. [email protected]

mballai: thank you, you are so kind! I checked with the husband (the computer consultant) and we don't have Excel on the home PC. I will have to decide about maybe buying a program. Nefish, thanks for the Quicken info.
Maybe I can find a deal on ebay? ; - )
furkidmom: I'm a pen and paper type, too, but all the adding up is getting old.
