Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would like to share positive buying experiences where you received more than you expected.
Today I received a video I had purchased from Ebay (shipped promptly by the way). With the video came a complimentary package of microwave popcorn, professionally labelled with the Ebay seller's ID & nice thank you message! I thought how appropriate & clever!! I would have left positive feedback anyway, but I am tickled with their thoughtfulness & cleverness! I know it's just a little thing, but little things are nice, too.
Anyone else care to share??

In another thread, there was mention of the buyer who got ants with his shipment, but I don't suppose that's exactly what you had in mind.

I think I know which thread you mean!! Nope, not ants... there must be some positive experiences????

Some of the sellers have included hand-written thank you notes on nice note cards.
I recently won an auction for a quilt and the seller included a lollipop with the shipment.
Things like that help me feel like the seller values me as a customer and a person.
Speaking of the lollipop, I notice it is no longer next to the monitor...hmmmm...

Nice to see some POSITIVE experience, although I was kind of hoping for something like the crock full of dead spiders and cigar butts or clock with a dead mouse stories.....

Well, I sold an old portable manual typewriter to a customer. After he got it, he mailed me a thank you card saying that he liked his purchase very much. It was written with the manual typewriter!

I won an auction for a Mickey Mouse figure from a guy who lives in Hawaii. With the figure he sent a magnet that looked like a Hawaiian shirt (looked to be hand made) as well as a very nice note saying he hoped I enjoyed the figure as much as he had.
Made my day!

I once received a turd with my new "Titanic" DVD. I wasn't very happy. Perhaps if I collected those things it might've been more of a welcome surprise.

Wow! Nice to hear from you! Thought you dropped off the face of the earth, or at least AW...
Sorry to hear about your "bonus" with the Titanic video. You seem to have the worst luck, poor chap.

Once a seller included a Mardi-Gras beaded necklace. She was from New Orleans.
Also, a seller included a second item, similar to what I had won, free! The second item did not sell and she thought I would like it.
I like the popcorn with the video. Perhaps I should include a bookmark with the books I will be listing soon. Or perhaps a blank recipe card with the cookbooks I have ready to list... ~Patricia~

Malady,
The bookmarks are a great idea. I am lucky enough to have a closeout center nearby that sells victorian trade-card style bookmarks--3 for a dime. I send out a bookmark with a handwritten thank you note on the back--buyers often comment on that in feedback.
It makes me feel good to send them and it reminds me as I write the cards out that all my customers are individuals like me rather than just a check or Paypal payment!

When I was selling Glassware Coffee Pots made up quite a bit of my business. I also have an obsession with cappuccino (buy it by the case) so I started to include a "just add water" cappuccino package with all my items. The customers really Enjoyed it!
I love the popcorn Idea!!

I generally toss in a little something as a "thank you" if the bidding goes higher than I expected. I sell clothing and sewing stuff and I will often pick out something that coordinates (for clothing) or something that goes with what they bought (like some vintage buttons to go with some vintage fabric, or whatever.) I always have a ton of little stuff lying around the house that's too teensy to auction, so in it goes. People do seem to love it.

I'm just happy that out of about 70 transactions, I've only had three transactions that I've been disappointed. Of course they were the more expensive items. But I've been pretty lucky compared to what I've been reading on the board. Most of the time it's been very positive, the one that sticks in my mind is.. In my ads I had that I ship in the US only. well I had a high bidder with a very unusual email address. I said OH NO. well he was in sweden. I thought HE'S GOING TO #*!@ WHEN HE SEES THE SHIPPING. There was no response when I sent the email with the shipping amount. Well, was I surprised when I got cash US dollars in the mail. He got the package pretty fast and left great feedback for me.

Anyone else do this?
When I get items padded with newspaper, I'll smooth it out and read it. It is really interesting seeing what is going on in other towns.
One of my *favorite* sellers sent some Pocket Dragons padded with a Stars and Stripes newspaper (not to mention a TON of brand new bubbles and air pillows).

lotsafuzz I do the same thing & also take a look at the store names on pastic bags.
I have had over 300 auctions and have sent a gift maybe 10 times & no one has ever made mention of it, feedback or otherwise. My husband suggested that maybe the buyer thought it was mistake and didn't want to mention it thinking I would ask for it back.
Who knows, he could be right, this time.

I sell Japanese cultural items like geta (wood sandals) and old radio magazines. I always throw a pair of chopsticks in with the geta. With the magazines, I usually add another one that's not good enough to sell.
Nobody has ever acknowledged the little extra. Go figure.

ksterni....I bought a video online at 800.com and they sent a bag of microwave popcorn with there label on it. Maybe your seller got their idea from this web site. Either way, nice little thank you gifts seem to go along way with buyers. They usually come back for me.
When I have extra's sitting around, I also add alittle something to my auctions, not all but some. Once I sold alot of toddler beding and I thru in a stuffed animal, sometimes I throw in bookmarks with books and also a thank you note.

I won an auction for a kind of expensive purse, when I received it, there was a very large sized satin nighty stuffed inside the purse. I don't know if was an extra bonus for me (it would have fit an entire army) or if it was supposed to be packing material.
I threw it out.

I sell silver and gold charms, and I always include a little extra, usually "retro-candy" (yes, its fresh! hehehe) like a tootsie pop, atomic fireball, gumballs, pixie sticks, etc... I also order small toys, like jacks sets and foam airplanes which I include with the larger orders. I include a personal note, made to make you smile, and with a good customer or repeat buyer, a coupon for $$ off, or free shipping on their next order.
I guess I have super buyers, lots of them acknowledge the fun in e-mails and feedback, and it makes my day to know I made someone else smile!
luck, love and laughter, ~Linda Moon~

I did the same. I deal in electronic equipment mainly, and I used to throw in some smaller thing along the same lines as the purchase - or even a new tool. Nice big thank you note from some and zero feedback from most. I don't do it anymore.

I recently got called out of town on a family emergency. My DIL went into premature labor and delivered a 4lb preemie. I left so quick, I didn't have time to cancel auctions or contact bidders. Thankfully my son has a computer, so I could access my email.
I explained the situation to call my bidders, some paid via paypal and some via checks. All items went out the day after I got home and I included a picture of the newborn and either a new xmas towel or inexpensive necklace with each package.
I've received positive FB on those who have received their packages, but no mention yet of the "extra".
Not my name on ebay.
