I've had this for a long time. I've always wondered what the heck it is.... Any idea?
<a href=http://imagehost.auctionwatch.com/preview/up/upinthehills/sqglass.jpg>Click here</a>
It's 9 3/4" long x 6 1/4" wide x 7" high. If you took a gallon milk jug and laid it on it's side, it's about that size. Heavy, about 6#'s.
Well, while I'm here....any idea what this pattern is?

<a href=http://imagehost.auctionwatch.com/preview/up/upinthehills/soapdishinfo.jpg>gravy bottom</a>
Thanks all.

You need to use UBB code to place links here:
[*img*]http://www.yourimage.jpg[*/img*]
Remove the *'s, no spaces. You do the same for urls, using [*url*] - [*/url*]
There seemed to be some extra characters at the end of the address, it should stop after the .jpg

I found this link very useful. It tells you how to post links, photos, make smilies, etc. for here on the message board.

upinthehills...you are trying to use html on a ubb board.
For an image, use img between square brackets [] before the url and end with /img between brackets.
For a url, use url and /url between brackets.
That's Flunky Gerbiltush to you!

UpInTheHills,
The aquarium looking thing is, I believe a "battery box". These were used for containing batteries used for powering radios. Many were used on farms or homesteads where there was no electrical power. (they also used gasoline powered washing machines). It probably dates from the 1920's. Just my guess though. It could also be an aquarium.

That is a battery jar. Back before the dry cells we know and love today, these were the containers for the lead plates, electrodes and acid solution that generated DC electric power.

Re your gravy boat: I have a friend who collects Myott Chelsea Bird pattern. Sometimes you see a version of that pattern with flowers in place of a bird. This looks very much like it, but obviously not by Myott.

It also looks a lot like Nippon/Noritake, though its not, by the mark, and the mark is similiar to it to. Its pretty though!

Well, I've been looking for battery boxes/jars. None of the ones I've found have a decorative border like this one does. Most of the ones I've seen also have some kind of markings impressed into the glass. I did find one that looked like an aquarium, but I'm not sure if that person settled on that, or it's really what it is. The battery boxes are cool though, learn something new everyday.
Any thoughts on what to search for for the gravy boat?
You guys are great. Appreciate all the help.

It's me again. I've searched and searched and still have no idea what the gravy boat is. Any thoughts on listing/auction title? Wondering if someone would want to buy a piece of china without any clue as to what it is. Thanks again for all of your help today.
