I think most use polypro for storage, although some recommend mylar for long term. I'm not expert in this area, though...so I can't give you any firm longevity expectancies in this area.
My two obversations are these: There's no point in buying expensive protective bags just to ship an item you're selling on eBay (or elsewhere). No paper product will suffer from being in a manila envelope for 3 days. Secondly, I've had stuff in storage in polypro envelopes for decades, and it seems to be none the worse for wear. So I think you've gotta sort out the hype from folks who are selling the super duper long term storage bags....
