I read a post a while back concerning plastic bags for long term storage of old paper items.

What type did you say to use and what are the names of some companies that sell them online?

Also, what is the life of the lesser bags typically in use?

Thanks

Hiya:

I don't think I contributed to that thread...

Here are two recent threads on the subject, with a link to suppliers:

http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&id=178711&thread=178569

http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=2&id=261731&thread=260657

I think most use polypro for storage, although some recommend mylar for long term. I'm not expert in this area, though...so I can't give you any firm longevity expectancies in this area.

My two obversations are these: There's no point in buying expensive protective bags just to ship an item you're selling on eBay (or elsewhere). No paper product will suffer from being in a manila envelope for 3 days. Secondly, I've had stuff in storage in polypro envelopes for decades, and it seems to be none the worse for wear. So I think you've gotta sort out the hype from folks who are selling the super duper long term storage bags....
