Hi Everyone: Does anyone know if Sony Mavica makes a digital camera that uses the 3.5 disk and sells between the range of $300 to $500? If you do, is it any good for our auction pictures and/or home? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

Hi, I have the Sony Mavica FD-73. I bought it at Wal-Mart for $498 and couldn't be more pleased with it! It takes the 3.5" floppy discs - no cords! 10x zoom, LCD screen. I take all my auctions pictures with this camera - does awesome far and close-up shots. I've seen Kodak's that are more expensive not even do such a great job!

the link given in the past thread will probably help you, but to answer your question, i purchased my sony mavica fd73 this week at a sony outlet in lake elsinore california...to find your nearest sony outlet you can do a web search with "sony outlet", there aren't many...amazon.com offers it for @ $439.00 but i think its on back order-you can read the customer reviews there to get more info/opinions on the mavica for what it's worth...also, a site called pricescan.com lists sellers, with prices starting under $400.00, but when i called the cheapest they were all out of stock, i have been warned that some of the sellers may be scammers so proceed there with caution, i had ordered a camera through a seller via that site $407., but cancelled it when i found out about the outlet...saved over $100...the outlet also has the soft case for $17.95 and the FD550 battery for $49.95, call to make sure items are in stock and they will not quote prices over the phone, items are "refurbished" and the warranty is only for 3 mos.

my Sony cost 699.00 a year and a half ago...maybe it's cheaper now. But it was worth every penny I saved to pay for it. I'm sure other cameras are great too, when moving from scanning photos to digital images it's hard not to be happy.

I found that the software you have to edit with is almost as important as the camera. I have some wonderful technical software...but it's a really simple software package I got with my scanner years ago that makes editing so easy for me. And my neighbor has this high tech software and neither one of us can figure out quite how to work with the pictures.

I've got boxes of floppies now of personal family pictures...I'm not sure that's good. I don't have lots of photographs anymore and I'm not sure if I'll be sorry about it years from now. But I can take picture after picture of anything and everything and throw the floppy into the box. It's really strange...photos were only black and white when I was little...then we have all the color photos and instamatic type...and now we have discs, all in my lifetime ~weird.

I am going to go down to the Lake Elsinore outlet next weekend. How much did you pay for your Mavica there? What model did you get?

jema-it was $299. plus tax, i also purchased the soft case for 17.95, i've seen it for 39.95 in stores and on ebay it's gone for about 18.00-28.00...they have the fd550 battery which i've seen for 99.00 in some places-the outlet wants 49.95, sometimes its cheaper on ebay...i didn't get the battery 'cause i'm on a budget, so far don't think i'll need it. good luck...

How many pictures can be stored on a floppy? How long does the battery last?

I have the FD-83. It has three different resolutions but I almost always use the lowest one. It's perfect for auctions and makes great photos up to 5x7. I get about 25/diskette and the battery (came with camera, think it's 60 minutes) lasts for three diskettes.

Sony Mavicas are wonderful cameras!!

I bought a Sony Mavica fd 73 from Amazon a few days ago, don't have it yet. But want to say there is free postage until 12/11
The eBay sellers scare me, most have low feedback. It's worth the extra money to know you are going to get what you paid for.

I bought the FD-83 online about a year ago for $500 including shipping. It took a week to find the price I was willing to pay. In addition to the above mentioned features, it can record a one minute video on a floppy. I had used a Kodak 280 before and the Mavica it superior in every way, especially ease of use for internet pix.

I have a Mavica Digital camera. It is the finest investment I made for taking pictures for eBay and any other auction. It uses a standard 3.5 disc. Depending on the size of the pictures you can get up to 36 pictures on a disc.

I bought mine in Europe for the equiv. of US$500.
