Have you read ebay's new announcement? Soon you will be able to list your item in two categories at the same time - for double the fee, of course!

Big deal - once you have listed you hit back twice and change the category and you list the new one - a whole 4 clicks. Why is it needed?

All that's going to do is bog down the system even more. Of course, if they count each listing, it'll sure make their numbers look good :-p

It is needed to suggest this wonderful "new" feature to those who hadn't hought of it before, and to extract an extra listing fee for the benefit of stockholder.

Maybe I'm not understanding this right, but if I am, I think I would like it.
One item in 2 different categories simultaneously?
Not all the time, of course, but there have been many times I've wished I could list something that appealed to 2 different interest groups in both categories.

Macandjan -- your idea works if you have multiples of something. If you're only selling one, it wouldn't be too good to have a bidder on two different auctions for one item.
I love the idea -- it'll help me a lot.
Hmm, OTOH, in my categories there are already too many Sellers (IMO) and too many listings, so this will just make it all the harder for buyers to get to MINE

yes gc2, you've got it correct. You'll be able to list the same item in two categories at the same time for double the listing fee.
I also think there are times when this might be a good thing, but only when I think the final price will justify the added expense.

Better perhaps to spend the double fee on listing the item twice, if it doesn't sell. At least that way you get 20 day coverage, instead of just 10.

I'll use this option in the future, as for RARE books, it will be very nice to have them listed in BOOKS:rare, and also in the actually category listings that the book happens to actually be about.
The way it is now, I can only list, say, an old rarity about pottery in the pottery categories, and then my book is probably well hidden from alotta book collectors and book dealers, who tend to only hang out in books.
The extra quarter does NOT matter in the case of a genuinely rare item, and MAY increase the viewers, and thus hopefully the final number of bidders.

Thanks, Maple...that's what I thought.
But, Steve, if we are talking about something that will sell the first time around regardless of where it is listed, but is desirable to two totally different groups, it could conceivably bring a much higher price if exposed to BOTH groups....AT THE SAME TIME!!! (I'm really not shouting at you....just never have taken time to learn to use the bold and italic features.)
As I understand it, it does not involve two auctions...only one auction which will appear in two different category searches.

gc2 -- I'm sure you're right (one auction in two categories). There have been 3 or 4 times I've wished I could do this, with antique or vintage items. For instance, I currently have a Sanford's ink drop-in inkwell (for the old school desks, early 1900's). Happen to have two, so can list one in "Writing Instruments - Inkwells" and one in "Collectibles - Bottles - Ink" but if I had only one, I'd have to either make a choice or switch it between categories.
The major concern I have is the bogging down potential, especially with Power Sellers who do new merchandise. Really wish there were 2 separate venues, not-new and new.
