I have what I'm guessing to be a child's smock - the kind maybe you wore when you were going to be fingerpainting - and it's made out of this wonderful Davy Crockett print fabric. On a red background there are various images of Davy Crockett - riding a horse, fighting a bear, sneaking up on Indians, etc. - and there are also scattered rifles and coonskin caps.

The reason I say I guess it's a child's smock is because it's really rather large, but I can't imagine an adult wearing something made with this fabric.

I believe it was homemade, but whoever made it did a fantastic job. The edges are all very neatly bound in bias tape and it has two pockets in the front.

The best part is that I doubt if it was ever used. The fabric is not the least bit faded and there are no stains.

I think this could be a pretty neat item - but where do I list it? Vintage toys? Vintage linens? Aprons? Please help!

I would list it under "Books, Movies, Music: Memorabilia: Television: 50's".

Someone else may have a better idea, or bring up some completed Davy Crockett auctions and see where the bids were.

But frankly, I doubt it's worth your listing fee, but if you will send it to me, I will be happy to reimburse your postage.

Vogeldanl, I thought about that too...but you know what? On second thought, with eBay's new feature (listing a single item in 2 categories), I'd put it in BOTH. This is EXACTLY the kind of situation I was referring to in my post on that subject.

I think that's mine. My mommy lost it during a move.! send it back now! The reason it looks so large is because they were made to cover the whole front of outfit. That way little fingers wiped on the smock and not on the good shirt and jeans or dress. I still want it back!

Rarriffle, the line forms behind me.

Maple, remember - I offered to pay the postage....

I did some poking around. Just about everything having to do with Davy Crockett sells (or gets bids at least). The problem seems to be finding a category for it. I saw a Davy Crockett cap and canteen under "sporting goods" and a fringe jacket under "toys-beanbag-plush". They must have just thrown up their hands on that one and said "I'll put it anywhere".

Were it me, I'd just put it in childern's clothing--general, and make sure you get Davy Crockett in the title. It should sell and get lots of lookers.

I should have realized I was stepping on your toes (but I didn't read all the replies before I posted). Can you forgive me? I do want to be friends.

If you list it under vintage tv and put Davy Crockett in the title. You could fit some of the other listing possibilities in the description. I think the people who want it will find it regardless. As long as the spelling is right. But, warning, I have called my attorney regarding my rights to this item. LMAO

Thanks for your help!

At least I now know there is definitely some interest in it! I thought it seemed like a good deal for $7.00.

Wasn't Fess Parker Daniel Boone?

I can sing the theme song:

Davy, Davy Crockett
King of the Wild Frontier!

Is it mine?

Oops, can't spell...

LC, I trust you know I was kidding you. Friendship is forever!

Rarriffle, I truly believe it is the one my mother MADE. And I can still put my hands on her old Singer sewing machine. Is there some kind of test to prove which machine stitches came from, like there is with old typewriters? (I also watched a lot of Perry Mason.) Plus the "fantastic" job part sounds like my mother's meticulous sewing.

And I probably have written the only known (even if little-known) love song to Davy Crockett.

Have your attorney's computer send your proof to my attorney's answering machine.

Laughter, YES! YES! PLEASE! PLEASE!!!! DO IT!!!!!!!

Ed. to add to Labbie (who was posting while I was): I still HAVE the theme song, both the Disney "theme" version, as well as 3 78s of the 'pop' version, plus a 78 of the Tennessee Ernie Ford version, still in picture sleeve.

I want all my Davy Crockett things buried with me.

Fess Parker was both TV's Daniel Boone and Disney's Davy Crockett....and my heart throb as a kid. Used to watch him every afternoon after grade school when one of the local TV stations aired DB in syndication. Glad to hear he's still alive and kicking. )

pickers, good call. A lot of people don't realize fess played both Davey an Daniel, and YES, he really is a nice guy!! It's kinda weird after being a kid with a huge crush on him to see him everyday. His voice is still as awesome as always and hey, did you realize how tall he is. At least 6'5"!!

gc the BIG thing to find is the Fess version of the song. He told me that he originally recorded the song for Disney, but by the time they decided it would be good for him to release it, it had already been done and became a huge hit!!!

"Daniel Boone was a maaaan, he was a bigggggg man"...

I can't remember the rest of this ditty, but I have a feeling it's probably just as well.

Of course, on the Disney soundtrack (as well as on the video tapes which have been released), Fess DOES sing the "Farewell to the Mountains"...or is it just "Farewell"? Not looking at it right now. I think the Mexican Army must have liked it too, because they waited until the last note had died away before they swarmed the Alamo.
