Logged onto my PayPal account just now and it has been restricted for "administrative reasons". What all does PayPal consider "administrative reasons"? Why didnt they email me and let me know this? Why didnt they post the information as to why my account is restricted on my account screen? Now I have to contact them and wait to find out what the problem is. Isnt there a better way to handle this PayPal? How about a simple email saying "Your account has been restricted because of xxxxx xxxxx, please do xxxxx xxxx to lift the restriction"? Anyone else ever had this problem?

Anyone else ever had this problem?

Do you want the entire list? It could take a while...

The good news is -- you've come to the right place (maybe).

The bad news is -- you should've been here the last several MONTHS. Maybe, like me -- and no doubt hundreds of others, you wouldn't even have a PayPal account any more. (Ahhhh. How do you spell RELIEF?)

Sorry about your problems. They may take a while to unravel. PayPal apparently thinks you, or someone you've been trading with, is guilty of fraudulent activity OR perhaps someone from one of your sales last May complained that they didn't get the goods, or they weren't as described. Hmm, done any shipping to Romania or Indonesia lately?

PayPal hasn't had either the wisdom or coding expertise to restrict just specific transactions that are in some way or another the object of their scrutiny (that is, we assume they'll get around to doing some scrutiny -- tho again, that could take awhile), so they just gleefully restrict whole accounts. And no, they don't bother to tell you when, why, or anything else. If you can even TALK to someone about it, it'll be a waste of your time.

There is a guy who posts here named PayPalDamon. He may be able to help you -- that is, if he stumbles across this thread. Some of the threads have his email address in them. Pour yourself a tall one, you're in for a long night of reading. But you owe it to yourself to get up to speed. Too bad it didn't happen earlier.

Good luck. (You're gonna need it.)

Good luck.

Business with PayPal seems like living in a house where a troll locks you out for a few days a couple of times per year.

AW forums receive such reports at the rate of more than one per week, incredible when you consider that far fewer than 1 in 1000 PayPal customers likely post here. Such restrictions are likely happening to thousands of honest people per week.

A prominent case was of such account restriction was recently publicly resolved after 2-3 days: "we (PayPal) observed a potential fraud, but we now see that your account was not involved in any way".

Some restrictions have indeed turned out to be apparent frauds broken up by PayPal, but not most.

It appears nearly suicidal, business wise, to rely on PayPal as one's most important means to receive payment.

I got a response from PayPal. They say the reason my account is restricted is because they dont have my phone number. If a phone number is required, how did I sign up without one and have received and sent dozens of payments with my account? I cant remember, but for all I know I did put my phone number on my account and they deleted it by mistake. This is something to freeze my account over? Bye bye PayPal!

Oh my! And this from a company that doesn't want us to have its phone number.

PayPal becomes more of a bad joke every day.

TRS -- those people are lunatics, plain and simple. They have the COMMON sense of a toad, and the BUSINESS sense of Jack the Ripper. I feel for ya, man.

I've migrated to ExchangePath and YahooDirect, and while it hasn't been all that long, no complaints just yet.

Plus, people are constantly pointing out the virtue of *the old fashioned* way -- checks and M.O.s

Good luck.

When a company decides to play hard ball with YOUR income. PLay hardball with them, and file a compliant with your state attorney general office. Most states now have on-line complaint forms, and most will send a demand letter to companies. I've used Calif's AG office to bring Ebay to heel once (Ebay gave me $50.00 to settle), and I'm sure that X.com can be brought to heel also. They have a right to freeze funds in question, but they sure as hell don't have the right to lock you out of everything based on ONE complaint, especially for transactions that are weeks or months old.

Ok, yesterday I immediately responded to PayPal's email by entering my phone number on my account and emailing them back as they requested, and so far? NOTHING. They have not lifted the restriction on my account or even emailed me back. Holding my money hostage over something like this? This is crazy!

This is taken from PayPals website. It details the reasons they can restrict your account. Restrictions. X.com, at its sole discretion, reserves the right to restrict an account for any one of the following events:

Reports of unauthorized or unusual credit card use associated with the account including, but not limited to, notice by the card issuing bank
Reports of unauthorized or unusual bank account use associated with the account
Complaints received regarding non-shipment of merchandise, merchandise not as described, or problems with merchandise shipped
Initiation of a charge back process through your issuing bank
Receipt of potentially fraudulent funds
Unconfirmed identity
Initiation of transactions considered to be cash advances or assisting in cash advances
Sending unsolicited, commercial email or posting referral links on web sites where they are not permitted
Opening multiple Personal accounts
The account has been used in or to facilitate fraudulent activity
Inability of United States Postal Service to deliver the street address confirmation letter to the address associated with the account
Reports of someone other than the intended recipient receiving the Street Address Confirmation letter in the mail
Name on the bank account associated with the PayPal account does not match the name on the PayPal account
Insufficient funds in the PayPal account to cover the return of an Electronic Funds Transfer for insufficient funds in the bank account, incorrect bank routing number, or incorrect bank account number
Insufficient funds in the PayPal account to cover the return of a check sent in for deposit.
Use of an an anonymizing proxy.

I did none of these. They told me they needed my phone number. I gave it to them. My account is still restricted and they will not reply to my emails. I confirmed my street address with them twice when I first signed up and they have my CC#. I have emailed paypaldamon but never heard back from him.

trs64, I read on another board that paypaldamon would be out of the office from today until next Tuesday. I'm sure he's going to have a lot of emails to catch up on when he returns. If I were you, I'd try to bring this thread close to the top next Tuesday so He'll be sure to notice when he starts browsing all of the forums on his return.
