Looks like it's going to be a good change. I'm happy with the compromise---sellers have free access to emails of buyers, whereas strangers have to request it. That extra step will cut out the "spams of opportunity" IMO.

Not bad. Not bad at all.
Anything that might cut out the SPAM diarrhea that has been inflicted on us is a good thing, IMO.

It appears eBay is slowly heading towards a set up like Yahoo has. Scum sucking bottom feeders will soon be out of business.

I really don't understand why you get much spam. I run approximately 40 auctions a week and I really don't get any spam at all. What I never do is, post on eBay boards or anybords on eBay, AOL or any type of discusion tables. I used to do that in the past, but no anymore, so no more spam.

Ebay should only allow the access of all email address only to the sellers of their respective auctions, I don't know why other buyers/bidders have to access to the entire list. Also, I don't understand why other members can have access to the entire list of my closed auctions. I noticed that many of my cheap competitors copy my titles and subtitles after noticing that I had alo of bids. Only the seller should have acces to respective auctions and NOBODY ELSE.

One word about spam. A few weeks ago I was cruising around looking at coupons for sale. I was curious from a post I read here. The next day and many soon after I started receiving spam about free coupons this and free coupons that. One of those sellers was running some kind of bot program in their auctions and it collected my email address. What a scary thought.
I like the new change. At least bottom feeders will be stopped.

I guess adding my email address to my "about me" page will be simple enough.

poton: I've been saying much the same thing for a little while now (about how eBay should limit email address requests).
eBay is at least taking a good step in the right direction. Spammers love getting longer lists more than shorter ones, so it will make that angle harder.
I still don't understand why eBay just doesn't limit access of bidder addresses to only the sellers whose items the bidders actually bid on. I can't think of one good, useful reason to have general access to bidder addresses, regardless of whether they're part of a list or on their own, but I can think of plenty of problems (spam, bottom feeding, fee avoidance, etc. ).
Still, this is definitely an improvement.

What's being done in the name of direct marketing nowadays is crazy.
The above are all just my opinions, except where I cite facts as such.
Oh, I am not dc9a320 anywhere except AW. Any others are not me.
Is eBay is changing from a world bazaar into a bizarre world?

I opened an email addy just for Ebay and it is spamming like mad...I am glad.
The instinct to quit is over developed.

I have repeatedly told them that the solution is absurdly simple: do NOT give out email addresses! All they need to do is set up an "email this member" web page, where you'd type your message, and EBAY would then email it to the member.
The mail would get through, but the addresses would remain private.
Their reaction -- each time -- was basically that I should use a length of rope as a substitute urinal. So, I gave up trying.
I find "giving up trying" to be the best solution to most of the problems I encounter with ebay. The benefits are lower blood pressure, less condescending boilerplate in my inbox, and less contact with morons.
