Hi! Ive got this bowl that looks like Steuben or Tiffany style. Its got the gorgeous irridescence and the stretched glass appearance around the edge. BUT there are two mold seem marks on the foot. So not Steuben or Tiffany. Its not carnival glass is it????
It is not signed it is 12 inches across the mold lines are only on the foot the rest looks blown but has a couple straw marks. Maybe blown in mold?
Its a mystery to me.

May I offer an opinion? I believe you have a piece of Imperial Glass, not Steuben or Tiffany. If you have access to Weatherman's Book II, you might see it under the Imperial listings. Hope this helps?

Thank you Glassperson
So does that make it a 20 dollar piece? Please tell me no. I dont have that book, do you know about when they made this? Is there a name for this blue? Its a very pretty sky blue, opaque not like the Imerial ice blue at all.

It's not shown in Weatherman 2 that I can see, but I agree that it looks like Imperial. I don't have my Imperial catalogue pages reprint book cause I lent it out, and haven't gotten it back. But I think we're talking more than 20 bucks here, kitsch.

Like 20 more than 20? 60 more than 20? 5 thousand more than 20?

PS, I did know it wasnt Steuben, never heard of Steuben molded. It is the style I was trying to convey. I had no idea Imperial made such pretty stuff!

Don't know Kitsch. I don't deal much in carnival or stretch. Off the top of my head, I was thinking about $85-$125, but who knows with ebay lately? Stuff is going dirt cheap there nowadays. Wish I could be of more help.

If it's Imperial, it's the older, pre-depression. Imperial was made some beautiful carnival and stretch glass.

Good, and thanks for asking. By the way, you wouldn't happen to have a copy of that big fat out of print Steuben book, would you? The one that you can't buy for less than $250, even when you see it? I have some stems, that a number of people keep telling me are Steuben. I'm thinking they are European, but one dealer told me this weekend that they're in that book. If you have it, could I send you a pic in the next few days, and see if it's in there?

Thanks, kitsch. I'll do that. As soon as I dig them out I'll get a pic to you. They are beautiful, and my first thought was that they were Fry or Steuben, but while nicely done, the quality just isn't what I expect of those two.

Looks like old Fenton stretch glass to me -- Celeste Blue, ca. 1920s.

Thanks! I'll search Fenton and Imperial listings. Celeste is a pretty name for blue.

I'm goin nuts on this one. Sometimes you get a piece and it feels so special, like pay the light bill special at least.
Ive looked at Imperial since it was brought up and cannot find this color anywhere and looking at Fenton Celeste blue its all clear and a totally different shade.
This color here is like ........ ummmmmm like a very bright light blue, like the sky miday, and its opaque. Then with the rainbow iridescence.
I know! Like aquamarine if it were opaque, or like blue jade

Hi Kitsch1. Beautiful bowl you have there. I'm no expert, but it looks like Fenton to me as well. There's a site dedicated to Stretch glass (which your piece definitely is) that might help:
http://members.aol.com/stretchgl/
Sorry I don't remember how to do that as a link. Maybe someone selse can fix it.

Thanks very much for all the info! In looking thru ebay it seems this beautiful old glass is bringing very disappointing prices. I think I'll keep it. I'm afraid I spent too much on this one. Ah well we live we learn

Ah...Kitsch, may I add my two cents?
In looking thru my Imperial Reprint catalog - and remember it is in black and white, I believe your plate is still Imperial, see, pg. 110, "New Satin Iridescent Colors" "Blue Ice" assortment.
Sorry to say, that price guides are now a thing of the past- good for identifying, and no good for pricing!
What was once rare, is now common to all of us that deal in glass. However, I have found that listing in January thru June, was my best months. I have a friend who puts things up on ebay and lists a outlandish reserve. For $3, she get a free appraisal from all ebayers! Then she knows what it is worth and proceeds from there. Good luck.
