Description didn't load when I placed bid - now reads plate has damage Retracted: Nov-14-00 15:05:00 PST

The above is taken from an auction of mine that ends in a couple of hours from now.

If I'm reading correctly he couldn't read my description because it didn't load before he placed his bid? As far as know the description area will ALWAYS load first before the bidding section and as to the NOW reads plate has damage, it always read that way, if it didn't there would be a note on the auction that it had been revised! Which there isn't because I didn't.

Just thought you all would get a kick out of another LAME excuse for retracting a bid.

On Friday, November 3, 2000, I picked the numbers 7-38-18-41-3-30.
Saturday night when the numbers were announced I found that the numbers I
picked were selected, however when I checked my lottery ticket I found that
I must have marked the wrong numbers by mistake because the ticket indicated
the wrong numbers. The card that must be marked to be read by the
computer is hard to read and it is easy to mark the wrong column.
I know that you will honor my request that I will be considered the
winner because I selected the right number and just made a small mistake.
If you won't pay me for intending to mark the winning numbers, I want to
have you to declare a recount of the Nov 4th Lottery and allow me to select
the numbers that came up on the 4th.
Respectfully, XXXX XXXX, West Palm Beach, Florida

This is my biggest b**tch about the eBay retraction system. We sellers are not allowed to reply to the retraction reason.

I had a "SORE SUBJECT" auction once which listed that this particular item was a particular "STYLE", not the actual item. I mentioned it several times in the ad description that it was not the actual company. (There is no other way to refer to this item, other than referring to the company that originally made this item).

After several emails throughout the auction (the most I have ever received), I finally decided to contact the bidders to remind them about the description to make sure they knew what it actually was. I even told them they could withdraw their bids if they hadn't read the description correctly or "even at all".

One bidder retracted his bid with the comment "Seller materially changed the description" - Needless to say I WAS FUMING MAD. I immediately emailed the bidder and let them know how p**sed I was at their retraction comment. They did apologize to me, but it still smarted. My reply to that one would have been "Description didn't change-Bidder didn't READ".

Sometimes we need to reply to "grandfather died, need money for plane ticket" - of course he only needed the money from my auction, not the other 30 he bid on before and after his retraction and amazingly one for the same item.

I also think bid retractions MUST be advertised. When you do a search on that bidder, it should show up that he bid on x amount of auctions and retracted and you should be able to see what auctions and what their LAME excuse is.

Bid retractions obviously bother me. The last one I had was from a newbie who bid on an item that I anticipated was going to cost alot of money to ship and I even said so in the ad. I advised people to email me for a quote, PRIOR to their bid. This guy bids on the item and then sends me a letter that says "my bid is subject to acceptance of the shipping amount". He later retracted his bid, which left the underbidder responsible, who figured he was out of the game and bid on another item instead. I let him out of the auction, as I feel retractions are inherently unfair to underbidders.

WHEW!!! That was a mouthful. I am sorry to hear about your bid retractor - It is obvious I understand your anger.
