A friend has asked me to do a little research on a cigar box handed down in her family. It's wooden and has "London Whiffs" written in script on the top. On the front side are the words "Feder Bros." and "Factory #351". On the back is a label "National Stogie Makers League." There is a factory stamp on the back that says "Jun. 20, 1899." And someone has stamped "Colorado" in purple also on the back. The inside cover also says "London Whiffs."
The lid has two metal hinges and a little metal closer thingy (I don't know the words for this.)
Any idea of its rarity or value? She's interested in putting it up for auction if its value warrants the trouble.

I recently sold one that meets your description but from a different company and no date printed (that I remember). I was disappointed tho as I started it at $5.00 no reserve, got no bids first time around and sold for opening bid on relist. It is possible that mine was no an obscure company which might have increased the value. I used to believe that you could trust the bidders to set the fair price, but things have been so slow of late that I'm not sure that philosophy works anymore. Have you done a search of completed cigar boxes to get an idea?
Good luck and I hope there's a bidding war on it for you.

Most cigar box collectors are interested in the litho/graphics on the box.
For some good examples, check out Tony's site.
