After reading how people were selling PlayStation 2s for outrageous amounts of money at auction sites and preaching patience to my son, I finally got one. I ordered one from EBWorld in October and was notified today that it is being shipped! And I didn't have to pay more than it sold in the stores. In fact, because I bought it through the Internet and from another state, it as actually cheaper - no sales tax! Now, do I tell my son it will be here in time for Christmas or let him sit and fret until Christmas morning? He's 16 amd I'm thinking of letting him believe that it might not be here in time. Any ideas to make it a real surprise?

Yeah, wrap up a small box for him that has a note in it telling him to go look in another room. That ought to make him sweat it out til the last minute.
I'm all in favor of torturing your kids. It's the only pay back you'll ever get.

DONT TELL HIM!!! MAKE HIM SWEAT A LITTLE!!!! LOL I know my daughter is just furious with me right now because I have not 'ordered' hers yet from an auction. But like you, I am ordering from a site online and I was also notified that mine is being shipped, so she should have hers in time for xmas. But I am making her sweat a little so that on xmas day and she opens it, she will feel soooooo guilty!!!! Then she will 'love' her mom even more and I get to make fun of her. And before I get flamed, we do this kinda of thing to each other all the time. We never know what the other is up to and it makes the surprises even that much better and brings us that much closer together. So "tough love" that teen and make him think his friends will ALL have one before him and watch his face when he sees it. That is what makes my day!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree!....By the time they are teens, the big surprizes are harder & harder to come by....If you tell him now, he'll just bug ya every minute to open it...."Cause, what's the difference, I KNOW you have it, so I might as well try it!"...."C'mon, I'll just play one game & then put it back in the box"...."C'mon mom, INSERT FRIEND"S NAME HERE Mom let him!"....and on & on & on.......
Besides, once they know what's comin' it's like not even a gift anymore...&..."What else did ya get me" becomes the chant....At the price of those systems (even online) they should really appreciate it!.....
We are NOT getting one....I've got almost EVERY system in my house & I don't want to add another.....Not this time around anyway.....
Congrats to those of you who took the smart route & paid retail, not the inflated prices....
