I heard a rumor that PayPal was shutdown by the banking authorities - any truth in that? Or a viscious lie? I can't seem to get to their site and it has been like that all day so now I am getting worried!
thanks in advance,
simon

Same here...
I cannot access Paypal.com or X.com.
Does any one have the 800 number for Premier users?
TIA,

You mean there are competitors of paypals who have suppressed peoples votes too? The owners brother wouldn't happen to be in charge, would he?

They can recount both my accounts which are under a dollar. If they get it different I will agree. EBay gave me a $1,875,013.00
credit this spring, but do you think they would cut me a check for my credit balance? HA!

Can't get in here (NE Ohio) either.
Normally I wouldn't be worried, but I just received an email from a website I made a $75 purchase at about a week ago. This was just about enough to clean out my X.com account, as they are shutting down X.com on 12/1, and I used my X.com Visa Debit for the purchase. To make a long story short, the email said my card was declined (I had $89 in it left to spend, so there was $$ left over after processing the $75 purchase) and they cancelled my order.
Now I can't get into the site, and I come here and see this.
Off to work the phones, and not feeling good about this... I also have a small amount in my PayPal account, about $100 or so...

Paydirect is down too-has anyone checked their ATM machines to see if they work? Did we have a depression and close the banks without telling anyone?

I just spoke with "Paul" in Customer Service. He said that after loading upgrades they went down. He said that they plan to be up within 2 hours (it's now 11:25PM EST on 11/27/00) -- we'll see.
I asked about any truth to the rumor of them going out of business and he said that people are confusing them with x.com who is being shut down on 12/1. He said that PayPal is "growing stronger every day". If this 2 day outage is strong, I don't want to see weak. I wonder how they plan to compensate the business users of PayPal for this LARGE inconvenience?!?!

I called Paypal, and told them about the rumors...
The guy started pissing his pants, telling the other employees about it.
He was GENUINELY suprised, AND amused, and thanked me for the information.
What am I clown? Do I make you laff? bang!!

Of course, the Paypal management is probably watching him, saying, "I can't believe this idiot doesn't realize that his paycheck is going to bounce..."

You know, magazine_guy had a good point on another similar thread... and that is to keep Paypal balances low. I've been doing the opposite since they brought in the 5.2% interest gig...been letting it build up more than normal. I think as soon as I get back in I'm going to go back to my previous 'keep the balance low' way of dealing with Paypal.
edited to add IF I get back in

This may be a coincidence, however today at 1:00 I sent $290 to an ebay seller via paypal. The seller told me that recieved a notice from paypal; that the funds would take 4 - 5 days to process. I found this odd as the funds posted on my account would easily cover the $290. I have tried all day to checkout my paypal account without any luck.
