I just tried withdrawing some money from PayPal - having it sent from my PayPal account to my local checking account - and this is the message I get, in bright red letters:
"Unexpected error: 3004. We are currently experiencing heavy traffic to our site. Your request was not completed. Please hit the refresh button on your browser to try again. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your patience. If this problem continues please try again at a later time."
Hitting the refresh button gives me the
same message.
Swell!

I wonder, could this be the virtual equivalent of a bank run?

I've been having the same problem since yesterday afternoon so I called them this morning.
The error message of "heavy traffic" is a total farce. I was on hold for 20 minutes before somebody answered. I told the nice person (she was quite congenial, I must say)that I didn't believe it was heavy traffic since it was going on too long and that it was merely a guise for "technical problems". I also told her I was a business account but couldn't access PayPal in order to get the phone no. for PP business. She said, I can transfer you over there - came back and said she couldn't even get through. I said, what a shock...
Here's the REAL story for those of us who are paying more but can't access the service: they are working on a server "to enchance it" (she'd said they're working feverishly to complete). I said, I believe it's more like a server which is down and they should be working feverishly because their numbers of unsatisfied "paying" accounts are growing by the hour.
Bottom line - PAYPAL IS DOWN but they don't want you to know it. Go figure!

It seems that Paypal is really "truth challenged." They don't seem capable of ever giving a straight answer.

I have that 1929 feeling. I have auctions ending and am advising all winners to send check or MO. Paypal offers no way to get info.(no message boards, announcements, etc.) Auctionwatch is the only place to keep in touch. Does anyone know how Paypal users can communicate more efficiently?

* * * Here's what [email protected] just told me:
"Hi,
The site is running intermittent and extremely slow at the moment. I
apologize, but engineering is working as fast as they can to resolve the
issue.
Regards,
Damon"
* * * The fact that PayPal has chosen to LIE about what's really going on, and not have the decency to post a message on their home page, says a lot about their business ethics.
* * * Notice that PayPal doesn't have "problems"-- like eBay, they only have "issues" -!!

It amazes me how quick people are to scream "foul" and and make sight outages into mass conspiracies. The site is down beause there is a PROBLEM. If Paypal knew what was wrong, the *&%$! site wouldn't be down.
Sight outages are a REALITY of ecommerce and online selling. Except it as a part of doing business. All sites experience problems, get fixed and come back up.
Would your website be able to accomodate 2.5 million users? Who fault would it be if it was your site? The millions of pesky users who are flooding your website, of course.
