I'll pick a topic that usually gets everybody all riled up.

When I ship an item--I do not just charge postage and materials. My time and effort to insure that your item arrives to your door in the same shape it left my door is worth something---and I include that amount in my FIXED shipping.

After the week I've had (and it's ONLY Tuesday -AGH!) I could go for a really good fight!!!!(Oh, why oh why did I sell the heavybag?)....But I don't know if I can get really fired up about shipping charges...I'll give it a try...

I charge ONLY the EXACT amount of postage...Nothing more!...Sure some items take me hours to pack, not to mention a small fortune in packing materials, heck on most of the items I lose tons of money when I consider the time/materials to pack...But dammit, my customers are worth it!

I figure out what the actual shipping will be, and multiply it by 2.2654. Then I pack it in a used pizza box, add some ants, and off it goes.

I charge a fixed shipping rate, instead of $3.20 for Priority I charge A fixed rate of $3.50.My reason is to help cover the cost of lost packages instead of charging insurance, confirmation and all that stuff. The rest of it I take as a lose,as I replace all defective videos ect. without having them shipped back for the credits,as it would cost me double to do that.Unfortunately, I've had more lost packages this year than ever.

Postage, materials, time and effort are all well and good... but where's the ROI ?
Perhaps you need to charge more.

Bummer I was ready for a good fight too. Personally I don't think it much matters. All the brohaha over shipping charges. If you put it in the auction and it isn't hidden in anyway, adults should be able to figure out how much they want to spend on an item. If you pay 4.99 + 3.20 shipping or 2.99+ 5.20 shipping it still costs 8.19. What does it matter if you call it a bid or shipping or a toe tax because you stubbed it?

Not to mention most anyplace you buy through the mail charges shipping fees.

Some people like to charge just the cost, some people have fixed. You say tomato I say tomato and cheese. Life would be dull if everyone did everything exactly the same.

I bake up a fresh batch of cookies and include it with every order I send out. For this, I charge only exact postage costs - never a cent for handling. And then my buyers have the nerve to complain 'Hey what's with all this gooey stuff stuck to my item?' Some people you just can't please.

I never state fixed shipping... That's ridiculous.

My policy is to charge most folks EXACTLY what it costs me to go and ship it. Which means that I have to receive two payments from them.

First, they send me payment for the item. Then I take it to the post office and mail it to them.

Second, they receive the package and note the amount of postage.

Third, they have to go to an office supply store and price the type of packaging I used. They must also figure in the amount of tax I have to pay in my state for these shipping materials.

Lastly, they send me a second payment for the amount of postage and materials.

I said this is the policy for most folks....

I have a completely different policy for stupid people. Stupid people pay me a flat fee of $50 for shipping. That's what my time is worth when having to deal with stupid bidders.

Even with my limited french, I understood that, Zazzie. You are cranky tonight, aren't you?

Might I suggest that you take this to the RT? Make a pleasant change from all the political threads. Unless, of course, you folks are going to start discussing shipping again...

*scratching head*

Hmmm....I'm thinking I should have been offended.

About shipping: I think sellers should make an effort to put pretty stamps on their packages. Why? Because I like looking at 'em.
