Hi all,
I have permission from Paypal to post this email here to stop the confusion regarding AUXPAL.COM. It is a scam, Paypal sent this to me, it is their internal correspondence. I called them and got it. Here it is:

If a customer contacts us regarding the "Auxpal" website, please tell them NOT to login to the site. If they have already, they should change their password immediately. You can let the customers know that we are aware of the site and are currently working to have it shut down. Thank you!

Sincerely, Chris F.
PayPal customer service

CHRIS SAID THEY WILL BE SHUTDOWN WITHIN HOURS, AND FOR ANYONE WHO GAVE THEM THEIR PASSWORD, TO GO TO PAYPAL NOW & CHANGE IT.

I'm confused.

The email quoted by jwpc refers to "Ax-PayPal," not "AuXPal."

Are these the same, or is there yet another imposter out there?

Welcome to Auction Blotch where everyone is a scammer, otherwise they wouldn't be online.
Who the hell is AX-Paypal!!!

Why doesn't PayPal make a really official
statement to their members who are involved?

Relying on individual posters to relay
information for them is not "official"

It doesn't surprise me but under the
circumstances, it would certainly be appropriate.

It ALSO makes for Liable if stated prematurely.

If this is a known scam, how come Paypal hasn't posted it on their front page like they did the Paipal scam??? And how come the Auxpal site is still there???

Something isn't right here.

Still trying to get an answer for Pikersangle
question posed on another thread,

"if AuXPal isn't associated with x.com or PayPal, where did they get the addresses and phone numbers of PayPal members who registered? Reverse lookup of the email address they use for PayPal?"

Helen: I'm not registered with PayPal so don't know the answer but does PayPal not allow you access to your own registration information so that you can update it if it needs changing? If so, wouldn't anyone who had your password not also be able to see/use this information?

NO, NO, NO...

What I mean is, at THIS point, for PayPal to go public, and make that kind of statement, can open the door for accusations of Liable from auXpal, should there be no wrongdoings found on their part.

NOT your statement!

Besides, everyone knows I already live in the woods in these beautiful mountains, but calling me a babe? <blush> ...thanks

No fair HJW, you edited!

I am not a member either but your explanation
makes good sense to me. I was afraid that this new site had somehow acquired a database from paypal.
Apparently, that's not the case.

Sorry, I misunderstood the target of your
remark....need to review logic 101...what is
it...just because one event follows another
event...

I still don't understand how PayPal is going to get this site shut down. As Irene said above, you can't do anything if a crime hasn't been committed yet.

If I give my PayPal password to a friend or relative to bid for me in my absence and they steal money or help themselves to a purchase or two, then I was a fool to give out my password. If I give my password to AuXPal and they clean me out or send a payment way over what was due, again, my own fault.

This site is volunteering to pay for your auctions if you give them your PayPal account information. Whether to provide them that information is a decision that you have to make. The only thing that PayPal needs to know is that person X wants to transfer $X to a seller. The person typing in the amount is not relevant to PayPal.

Any shenanigans that go on with a buyer's account should be addressed to AuXPal as they are in control of your money. You can't complain to PayPal if you gave these people control of your account.

PayPal should send an e-mail to their user base informing them that if they get e-mail from AuXpal, they should understand that it is not affiliated with PayPal and that PayPal strongly recommends not divulging your password to anyone or signing up for any kind of service that requires your account information.

Why should PayPal make an official statement? They are getting free advertising in every one of these posts, including this one

As I posted on one of the other threads going on this topic... Why is PayPal referring to the site as ax-PayPal and not auxpal?

I'm a businessman with 83 employees under my head, my father with 376 employees under his head, and we never consult/tell/ask my employees (except management) about what I'm doing, or what I'm going to do, they only get the orders and follow those orders. So at this moment the paypal employees are just assuming and that includes to paypaldamon. I bet the PayPal CEO and its team haven't sleep since yesterday, at this moment they are reunited with the management and legal team trying to find the best way how they can make money AND/OR the best way to clarify this matter. The paypal employees have no clue about the last decision, they are just waiting like me and you, they are just speculating that paypal will shut down this site, but isn't that easy, after all this auxpal has also its legal team. SO don't expect a prompt answer from paypal, they will have to consider a lot of facts, at this moment all they can do is, stay calm and study all the facts and don't say anything.

Now what people want to know is how this auxpal had access to our personal information. So paypal also has to consider that, if they say we never endorsed this company, so how the heck this auxpal had access to my entire personal information (paypa database) what makes you believe that they didn't have also access to your credit card and bank account information. So paypal have to be very carefully before they give an explanation, one of the ways out to this trouble is to try to work with this nobidding company and say we allow them, ...I REALLY DON'T KNOW, but all I want to know is how they had access to the PayPal databases, PayPal you better consider in joining this new site, or you have to give your members a good explanation.

Poton.

Well it would seem that PayPal can make a statement to the effect that they did not send out the letters and are not associated in any way with Auxpal, nor do they endorse this new site.

That would not be liable, nor are they making any judgements as to the veracity of the site itself (like fraud or scam), just stating their position in relation to the site and the e-mail.

Can't spell.

HJW Helen, I have been doing a mini-survey of my auctioning friends to see who got letters for Auxpal.

No one that I know who doesn't have a PP account or who closed their PP account got one.

No one that I know who has a PP account but doesn't use it and doesn't advertise that they take it and that their PP account e-mail is different than their auctioning e-mail got one. (some of my friends have not been able to close their accounts even though they want to, so they just changed the e-mail to something obscure that people could not find to send to. )

So, that pretty much left the ones that advertise in their auctions that they accept PP.

So, I guess Auxpal or any other entity could do a search on the various auction sites for PayPal and send to the e-mail addresses of those that advertise PayPal in their ads.

This is by no means scientific, just a hypothesis that I was working on...

POTON,

I don't think Auxpal had access to the Paypal database because I didn't receive an email nor did anyone else I know that has a Paypal account. I think they must have come up with the addresses from listed auctions or something.

There's 2.6 million auctions using paypal, it wouldn't be difficult to scrape the email addresses from the auctions. I seriously doubt they had access to paypal's information directly.
