YES! It is cheap! I have been using this service for about 5 months now and it is GREAT!

My friend - who also ebay's - has had some trouble with FedEx Ground service. She shipped a pair of boots and it took 2 months for the buyer to get them.

I on the other hand - ship large packages and they are harder to loose. I have had NO trouble and very happy customers as a result.

Just know that fedex ground is RPS. Fedex bought RPS this year (or was it last yr?)

Oh and if you send a package COD - you get your payment in an overnight envelope...

Do they have adequate insurance cover for my fragile goods.
Also will they insure to the value of my 'sale' price or will they only provide cover up to my cost price.
If these questions are also relevant to you and you don't know the answer then perhaps you SHOULDN'T be using them, also an answer from any of their rep's regarding the policy wording means nothing as I'm sure that somewhere in their policy you will find that they will not be bound to any representations or promises that anyone makes INCLUDING their empoyees.
So if you haven't bothered to read their policy and understand it then don't bank on it.

Insurance is included for the 1st $100, and only something like 35 cents for each additional $100. Not sure of the particulars, as most of my stuff falls under $100, sale or replacement cost.

You can also track your package on-line.

I've used them several times. Cost and delivery times (usually 1 to 5 days) is distance/zone based. So far both my customers and I have been quite happy.

Anything over 4 or 5 pounds is usually cheaper by FedEx Ground vs. USPS.

I also heard a rumor that a partnership was in the works where USPS would use FedEx for heavier items and FedEx would use USPS for for letters and small items.

Both Airborne Express and Fed Ex 2-3 day services are *very* reasonable too. The price is often within a couple of dollars of UPS ground, at least on the packages I've had shipped to me (many, with an average weight of 8-11 pounds).

sure the service is cheap... but the few times I tried them, delivered very slow, much slower than their estimated delivery time. Also broke one item, even FedEx ground said it looked like the package had been crushed by a truck. Then when the customer returned it to me, they "lost" it. Took me a month to find out they threw it out. So out of three packages... their record wasn't too good.
Not high on my recommendation list for shipping our ebay packages.

I've shipped several expensive and fragile packages with them, including an 800.00 package and one for 1375.00. No problems, but everything was double-boxed and packed to the max.

I've never had a complaint from a customer about the cartons looking banged up, never had any damage.

Also, they were delivered on time in every case.

I wish I had used slow delivery on the last item I shipped. Took me three e-mails to get the buyer to answer, then 2 weeks for the check to arrive. Usually if someone has very little feedback I hold the check but I was going out of town so I shipped 2 days after I got it. When I came home 3 days later I had an e-mail saying they received the item and loved it. They said my packing was great( it was very fragile). I left them positive feedback. I checked my feedback yesterday, they left me a neutral, said I was too slow. Go figure.

But is Fedex Ground good only for business addresses? Or can you send to homes as well? I recently checked some shipping options on a very large but light-in-weight package--FedEx Ground would have been about $4 cheaper than UPS, but said residential delivery was not available. When I tried again and checked off the business address option, it gave me the price. I used UPS because this was a customer's home, but sure wished I could've helped her save the $4.

Yes, you can ship to residences with Fed Ex. They will charge a small surcharge for residential. In my case, it was 1.25 extra.

The web site is not accurate. Take it to the FedEx shipping depot and they will ship it to anyone's home for you. The website prices are actually an estimate and you may end up paying a few cents more or less. Thanks.

I'm glad I found Fed Ex Ground. They are a lot better and less expensive than UPS.

I ship items that are oversize (30 lb.
rate) and here is the cost difference.

From Texas to Washington State.

Fed Ex Ground $20.90
including the fuel surcharge.
UPS $27.60
including the fuel surcharge.

Packages so far always arrive in a timely
manner.

Very satisfied camper.

Do they charge a differential for customers with accounts, and walk-in once-in-a-while customers? I went and looked at their rates on their site, and they are cheaper than UPS, but do they charge more than those stated rates if you are not a FedEx account holder? I am very interested in switching to them for my heavy china shipments.

birdwatcher:

No, I don't have an account with them.

I just walk in and pay with check or credit card.

I believe to get these rates you have to find a drop off that is manned by
Fed Ex employees.

Check their website for your area and it will show you where they are from where you live.

Jim
