Can anyone tell me how ebay sales are the week following Christmas. Is it worth while to run auctions during that week?

Thanks!

That would depend a great deal on what you're selling. If you're dealing in items most people would buy as gifts then the week after Christmas will be a bust. If you sell general purpose items which aren't seasonally affected then you should do just fine.

My sales last year were hot all the way until the end of January.

Through the last 5 years our best sales have been January through April.

We aren't even on the boards at this time of year - too many nuts, too much pressure!

I stopped listing auctions 2 weeks ago. The last ones ended last week and I am laying low until after the first of the year. Catching up with my deadbeats, and being very aggressive about it, cleaning out my files, cleaning up my pic hosting site, and re-stocking inventory. Sales were out of this world and off the boards until the 30th of Nov. and then started to take a sharp nose dive until it just isn't worth the time to list, and track down the nuts. Feeling good about it too, as the break is allowing me to browse Ebay and shop without stress, and also allowing me to update my form letters and general business plan.

Last year there was a lot concern about Y2K and I am sure that it affected sales in the later part of December. So my guess is that if anyone did well in that period, they probably will do even better this year.

Two years ago I did very well in the latter part of December. However, part of the reason was that my category was a lot smaller (about 1/6 the size of what it is now) and all of my main competitors were taking a holiday break. Computers were also a hot item as gifts so there were a lot of new users discovering the Internet and eBay for the first time.

avaloncourt --

I sell very gift-worthy items, and last year in the week between Christmas and New Years, my sales were astoundingly good. I actually didn't have enough inventory, and wasn't prepared for all the bidding activity in my category. Maybe it was a fluke, but I remember people were very surprised to see sales so good in that week.

I think a lot of bidders end up on ebay spending their Christmas bonus $ or perhaps looking to replace some of the gifts they weren't happy with.

I plan on selling straight through January.

last year sales improved dramatically on and after free listing day (which was the 21st btw). In the week after christmas I could have sold belly button lint - dutch - and gotten bid up. It is *NOT* a time to pull in your head.
