HI all - Only recently have I used auction programs that put counters on my listings, and I am still getting used to them. I was startled just now to find that a book I'm listing has over 100 counter hits, but no bids. I think it's because the title has the name of a collectible item in it, but the auction is for a book, not the item.
I haven't found any strong pattern of correlation between hits and bids, but at least this way I know that people are finding my stuff [even if they don't bite!]

This is not what you are asking really - but mind boggling just the same.
A few weeks back I had an auction go to the front page of a category on Yahoo. You cannot "buy" this, Yahoo selects by number of bids what gets the spot.
I wound up with over 5000 hits, but at the peak (Saturday night with the auction ending Sunday morning) I was getting 20 hits A MINUTE.

It was a lot of garbage Barbies. Dog toy Barbies. I put them up for 3 bucks, 10 or 12 dolls I don't remember. They got some bids and I saw that, but I sell under 3 names and never look at counters. I also do not sell Barbies, or scan categories so had no idea until a friend mailed me when she and saw it on the front page - "look at this".
I clicked on the link in her mail and there was my auction and I happened to be signed in to the right name at the time and so the counter popped up @ about 1500. This was Friday I think and in the morning it was 2200 or something, and the rest is history.
I watched 10 hits a minute (at least) go by for an 1/2 an hour - and I saw 20 in a minute pass once. I learned the power of Yahoo and also that 8:00-9:00 (mountain time) is peak. It was really just a mind blower.
