I don't know if it's just my listings but there is a problem with search on eBay.

I have the words "dodge shelby" in my title. When I do a title search, the listing comes up. If I do a "Title and Description" search, the listing dont come up.

I have tried this and half of my auctions are the same way. I contacted eBay and they said they will report it and to end my auction early and relist it. I already have 18 bids and only a day left so this would be a hassle.

I was just wondering if this is an isolated problem or if everybody may be having this problem. If so we may be missing many results by searching "Titles and Descriptions"

"We are so sorry if this has inconvenienced you. We will report it to our technical advisor as soon as he comes home from school. We are attempting to expand our resources for these problems but all his friends want actual cash money to work or are running their own businesses making web sites after school themselves."

jaysgarage, I have had the exact same problem in the past. On one of ebay's discussion boards, someone explained that it is a problem with ebay's database.

I also asked ebay about it and got a canned answer that didn't help at all. It never even addressed the actual problem.

I think the Search function is screwed up a lot, and they just never admit it.

Here's the explanation:

Title-only search and title w/description search are two separate indexes. An item will be indexed into title search typically within 2-4 hours. Because description search is much more comprehensive, that item won't be indexed into description search for upwards of 24 hours.

I have seen a few messages that some items listed on December 28 never made it into description search, however.

Note too that if you change something in your auction after it has been indexed in description search, that change will not show up if you do a description search, unless it is in the gallery or is a featured auction - for all other items, the description database is only "added to" not "updated." This was a decision eBay made several months ago because it was taking around 36 hours for the indexing process if they updated as well as added to it.
