This was in the police report of our local weekly newspaper along with the usual reports of domestic violence and shoplifting.
"January 2: An individual in the **** block of Peace Portal Drive purchased an expensive camera via Ebay. The individual sent a cashier's check to the seller as agreed upon. The individual received a rock instead of the camera. The rock was sent via Fed Ex from Minsk, Belarus."
Seeing as how the buyer used a cashier's check, do they have any way of getting their money back?

I bought one of the Minsk rocks, and the F-stop on it seems to stick. Other than that, the thing makes pretty good pictures.

I expect that report to make its way into Atlanta's local alternative newspaper (Creative Loafing) "News of the Weird" column.
The buyer is definitely between a rock and a hard place when it comes to getting their money back.

You know what kills me is that by sending that rock, the seller now has proof that he indeed sent something to the buyer !
Seeing as how the rock carries a certain amount of weight, the seller does have proof he mailed something which could have been a camera. So I do not see how anything can be done to the seller.
Another thing, the buyer signed for that package if it was sent Fed EX.
