I don't normally post here (or anywhere) and I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this but I need advice if anyone could help me. I bought an item on e-Bay last week and paid with PayPal(not with a CC), and received the item today. This item was advertised as authentic but it is not (I am positive of this, it's not even a very good fake). I have e-mailed the seller and asked for a refund, I'm now wondering how long should I wait to hear from him? And what do I do if I don't hear from him? I just searched his auctions and he's now selling a lot of the same type of item, so I'm worried that I'm not going to ever see my money, and others are going to lose theirs, too. Seller does have some positive feedback, around 25, with no negatives or neutrals. I'm not new to eBay and I've never had a problem before but this really has me worried.

The noble thing to do would be post a neutral or negative feedback immediatly if you are 100% sure it's a fake, and report him to [email protected] but you risk getting negative in return.

Sounds like someone who tried to build up some positive feedback then try a scam, but then again, maybe not. That is a method scammers use, though. I'd be worried if he's not replying to email, especially if this was an expensive item.

Write the seller and request your money back. Keep copies of all your correspondence with them. Contact Safeharbour@ebay with the details.

best of luck.

Should I contact PayPal support and safeharbour now? Or wait a while and let the seller respond to my e-mail (I just sent it this morning)? I know that the item I received is fake (I have no doubt, and my husband could tell immediately as well), but I can't say for certain that every item he is selling is. I've done some checking and a most of his feedback are from users that also have very low feedback and a lot of them have web based e-mail addresses, however there are a couple positives from high rated people. I have a really bad feeling about this and I am really thinking "scam", but I don't want to overreact if it was an honest mistake of the seller.

Hi Kay --

May I ask what the item is?

Hi Julesy,

It's a beanie baby, and that category is known for scams and fakes, but this isn't one of the super-expensive ones that are always being counterfeited. The seller does have some auctions going on for some more expensive ones, though, and even though I didn't spend a whole bunch of money on it, I still want my money back. It truly COULD be an honest mistake...but I have a lot of warning bells going off in my head.
