Had a buyer say this tonite.."you say you will combine shipping..then all three should go for $1.00 shipping..not combine and add more."
Okay..most of my auctions say, "shipping is $1.00. Will combine auctions to save on shipping."
Does this mean:
1) win multiple auctions and pay only a $1.00.
2) Shipping costs for multiple auctions are discounted to save costs..for example: you win three auctions. Where shipping would normally be $3.00..it is now $1.75.
What do you think? Should I make it clearer what my shipping formula is? Never had this happen before..but I have heard stranger on this board.

My thought was that it would be the latter of the two. If I'm selling 3 widgets that are $5 individually to ship, I'm not going to ship all 3 for $5. Maybe $7-8, but not $5.
As always, it's been your pleasure

I agree. Number 2. They WOULD have had to pay $1.00 PER ITEM for a total of $3.00. (I know YOU know that
Combining items means just that....send them together for a reduced shipping charge. Where do these people come from?

That really depends. I sell some items for which I cahrge $1 shipping, and I could (and do) ship as many 5 or 6 for the same price (photos, ads, etc).
Sometimes, it's cheaper to send two large items separately, also works well for customs.
As mentioned, you could discount the shipping, but not charge the single item shipping rate. I suppose it depends what the actual postal rate would be for the size/weight of all item combined.
I now put a disclaimer in my EOAs: You MAY be able to save on shipping if you win two or more of my auctions.

There are times when combining can mean they ship for the $1.00. However, in most cases, combined shipping would mean a "discounted" amount from the sum of the 3 items together.
The buyer is wrong in this case. Weigh them, then give the buyer the total actual packed weight & a link to the USPS rate calculator.

I charge actual shipping plus handling fee of a 1.00 so I just add the extra postage and 1 - 1.00 handling fee

Hey Dave!
How'd you knew?
I've been doing that "buy multiple (3) items, get free shipping" deal for a few months now, w/fantastic results.
Bidders get interested and bid on several items, just to get the free shipping, thus a bidding war ensues!
Seldomly a bidder wins 3 or more, and all items end up getting extra bids and better prices.
I list my guidelines in this on my aboutMe page.

I'd say that it means you will send them in a SINGLE package, for less than the sum of the individual items, BUT not necessarily for $1.00
Give them the choice:
Shipped separately for $1.00 EACH, or shipped in the same package for $(actual postage charge)
If they only want to pay $1.00 and it's going to be more than that for postage, ask them which items they want to do without.

I changed combined shipping to discounted shippping.
I think if future auctions (if there is a future for Ebay) I will use that buy three get shipping same as one or buy five and get free shipping.
Thanks for all the opinons..

Very good point! Yes, the "combined shipping" might be a little vague...The same price would only work for very light weight alike items... Never thought about it Thanks....

I wondered about this in my auctions myself.
I think if you said
<<shipping is $1.00. Will combine auctions to save on total shipping charges." >>
the few that didn't understand might get a clue.

This is what I put in my auctions:
Please check out my other auctions as I am happy to combine items so you can save on postage costs.
This works well for me and hasn't caused any confusions....(yet)
Hope this helps.
