I took a package in to be sent priority mail. They charged me $3.95. I paid.
I found out later on the website I should have paid only $3.50. Turns out if they aren't aware of pushing a button to change the type of container they don't get the $3.50.
I wonder how many other people are being overcharged? Is this intentional or unintentional?
BTW the local postmaster is aware of the situation. Therefore I am passing this on to help others. Are you being overcharged? How about those who don't have access to the website or are confused by the rate increases?

Thanks....One does wonder!
Just as I am really questioning PG&E's power shortages! I think it is manipulation on the part of Utility Companies, who probably made bad investments...and are losing their shirt. Sorry for the rambling...
As to USPS, I really do hope is it an error on the WebMaster's part...

It seems that the computers in the post offices have a glitch which hasn't yet been corrected--all Priority Mail packages that weigh 1 pound show up as costing $3.95 (the 2 pound rate) and the price needs to be manually corrected to $3.50. All postal employees should be aware of this and making the adjustments. I don't think this is intentional, but one does need to be vigilant until it's corrected.

I do know if the package says "Flat Rate" on it they charge $3.95 anyway. The rate is $3.50 for 1 Lb and down, $3.95 for 1 - 2 Lbs and Flat Rate.
I mailed a single piece of paper in one of those priority shipping envelopes and they charged me $3.95, I complained, saying you could tell without weighing it, that it was less than one pound. I was informed that if it says the words "Flat Rate" on the envelope that it goes for the 2 Lb rate.

You are 100% correct ranchhouse. You need a Priority envelope (EP-14G) to get the $3.50 rate. The old priority envelopes are all charged at $3.95 because they state "flat rate" This is not a "glitch" in there systems it is a training issue. Ask them for the correct envelope and if they try over charge you let them. Then get back in line and demand a refund plus 5x the amount or $5 which ever is greater. Opps I can do that in Michigan because it is a law, don't know about any other states!
