I am having some problems getting feedback from sellers. As a new person to eBay, I need to get credit for my purchaces. A lot of people will not take checks from people who have less than 25 positive feedbacks.I find it to be more true with sellers who have a great number of feedback they must not care if they get theirs! I may not care so much after I get my numbers up. I usally use paypal to pay for my won auctions before the seller even has had a chance to e-mail me!!
Does"t that mean I've done my part and deserve prompt feedback?

A lot of them just don't. I've been buying and doing a little selling for quite awhile and I gave up worrying about feedback over a year ago. You might want to check vrane.com you can see who leaves feedback and who doesn't. Also, sometimes a new seller who is trying to get their own feedback up is a good bet. After awhile though, it isn't all that important unless the seller has a bunch of negative feedback.

I know what you mean! When I was getting started on Ebay I had sellers question my 0 or very low feedback before allowing me to pay for a purchase. Some of those same sellers didn't leave feedback whent he transaction was successfully completed. Now that I have a larger number of feedback it does not bother me as much if feedback is left or not. When I pay via PayPal I do still include a comment in my private email saying I just paid through PayPal. I mention I will leave feedback when the package arrives and I hope they will do the same when payment notification arrives. A gentle little reminder to leave feedback. I dislike seeing in TOS or the payment information email that the seller will leave feedback AFTER feedback has been left for them. (Yuck!) Yes, I am one of those people who feel that sellers feedback should be left when PayPal/MO payment arrives or checks clear. From a buyers point I feel it should be left when the package arrives and the item is checked out. Feedback is important to everybody and I regularily check out my "feedback for all" list to see that I am up to date on my side of every transaction.

If I received feedback from everyone that I did auctions with on eBay, I'd have at least double what I have now. I always leave feedback as soon as I receive a payment, even if it's a personal check since I ship the day after I receive payment no matter what type it is.

I send a letter with all my items thanking the person for bidding and put in a reminder that feedback is important to both the buyer and the seller. I tell them that I've already left feedback for them and ask that they do the same for me. I put my user ID in the letter so they don't have to go back through emails to find it. Even so, not everyone leaves feedback.

Feedback is important to me because I work hard to earn it but I can't make a buyer leave feedback. I am, however, very thankful to those who take the time to leave it.

Feedback is in large measure a joke that represents nothing. Only in extreme cases can you really get a true sense of someone's character via feedback. One of the major problems with the system is that if you get burned and leave neg feedback, the perp will retaliate, so now you're burned twice. Despite your concern, feedback is a general guide only, so don't take it too seriously. In its defense I'll say this: its mere presence acts to police the system and thwart the worst types of fraud. It is all part of the game.

pj 231,

Leaving feedback is OPTIONAL. To not leave it hardly denotes a deadbeat- that would be someone who doesn't fulfill an obligation which feedback is not.

That said, I think if you were to email your sellers AFTER the transaction is over and ASK for it, pointing out that you are new and are trying to get established, most people would respond. Include the item number and make it easy for them.

pj231, Do you email your seller when you receive the item? Many sellers are so afraid of neg feedback that they do not leave feedback until they know the buyer has received the item and is satisfied with it.

As a buyer, I always let the seller know I have the item. I then leave feedback for the seller. I always get feedback from the seller in return.

As a seller, I leave feedback as soon as I know the buyer is satisfied. I do not ask for feedback from them but appreciate it when it happens.

There are people who leave feedback in bulk too, all at one time. I got a positive the other night for an auction that ended over a month or so ago. Some buyers/sellers probably just go in, do one comment and copy and paste the entire batch of comments to save themselves time.

I leave feedback on a per transaction basis, when I receive payment/ship item or get the item in the mail.

But I always leave feedback.

I decided how to deal with this when I purchased 3 seperate items from the same seller in a months time. I got no feedback on any and decided I wouldn't buy from this seller again...And I haven't.

Too bad for him, he lost a lot of business.

Personally, in the area of what I collect, I've found that the better sellers are the ones that make it a point to leave time for giving feedback...They're more meticulous in how they do business generally speaking.

In my experience, better packers, quicker shippers and especially important to me anyway, more detailed in describing the condition of the items they sell.
