This item was found at a local auction. I know next to nothing about old Oriental porcelain dishes, but I have been told that it is probably Chinese and there is a good chance it is EXTREMELY valuable. It measures 2 feet in diameter! (that's a ruler in the middle). It has no artists' marks that I can find. It has a small hairline crack about 3-4 inches long. I've done what research I can - but have found very little. My next step is to actually pay for an appraisal, which I'm not real excited about doing. I'm really hoping that some of you terrific AW members can help either identify it (age, artist, etc.) or at least point me in the right direction. I really appreciate your help.
Thanks.

I just wanted to send this back to the top and not let it get buried back on page 3 - still hoping someone can help out.
Thanks

from the looks of the design on back i would say its tranferware also, the designs are to exact to be handpainted. My bet would be english transfer also.

Hi there Nice pics...a little bit large; You might try to resize them, particularly if you plan to use them on Eb ay.
This is a Japanese Charger, from the Port of Arita, recognizable by the three blue rings encircling the base. It is beautifully done and appears to date from the early 1800..maybe 1820/40. Too bad about the hairline, as it is a very difficult piece to restore, due to the intricate hand-painting.
In perfect condition, it would run in the upper 100s..600 to maybe 900 - that would be the Retail price, not the AUCTION price. On Ebay, even with the hairline, you might realize 400 more or less. Only an avid collector will bid. Place it in Antiques, then Asian Art sub-category.
