I had $100 worth of Newport Medium cigarettes coupons listed on eBay and eBay canceled my auction. Is there any way to find out who had the highest bid so that I may try to sell them without eBay? Thanks.

I guess eBay doesn't like menthol? Just kidding.. but why did they cancel? There are a ton of cig coupon auctions, is that illegal too now?

Hi rodr5008! I don't think there's anyway you can get their e-mail, etc. eBay also cancelled about 3 of mine that had bids on them - I corrected what they said the problem was and relisted the auctions - actually the re-listed auctions are still running - and the "original" bidders have not re-bid. They may not even have known the auction(s) was cancelled - if they did, perhaps they would re-bid - anyway, once eBay cancels an auction - it is also deleted from their database - so to my knowledge - there's no way to get the information you would like to have (and me too - because the price on one of my auctions was looking pretty good!!)...live and learn I guess

I have had only one experience with an auction being cancelled. I did a little research though and re-listed the item again with a disclaimer of sorts. I think as long as you say something like "This item conforms to all Ebay policies because it is (or isn't) ...." it will be OK. I'm convinced that there are a few renegade Ebayers who simply like to get auctions cancelled when they feel it breaks a policy - but if you include a disclaimer as to how it obeys Ebay policy, they won't hassle it. ...Just a thought.

I was cruising Ebay and noticed someone selling Marlboro miles......Then i hunted down the big bag of them I had and put them up with no hassles got plenty of bids and did quite well. That was only 2 weeks ago.
I don't know why yours got cancelled. Maybe they don't like coupons to buy tobacco products???

I have written to many people about this & some of them absolutely refuse to believe that this actually happens! I guess it's one of those things they won't believe until it happens to them!

I had a $100 Newport auction cancelled today too. Did you get the VERO notice? I did. I wrote to the tobacco company that makes Newport to ask them why and they said that they do not allow the transer of their coupons and that ALL Newport auctions would be cancelled by the end of the day on ebay. Ebay's notice said that if we chose to repost it we could get suspended. (?)
Personally I disagree. If the coupons belong to me then I should be able to do whatever I want with them, but I guess Greed-bay wins on this one.
I find it funny that there are still about 20 auctions running on Newport coupons on ebay. I think we were kind of singled out for some reason.
Bah!

If they don't allow cig coupons because they are not transferable do an end run and sell them as collectable "ART".
You can sell full containers of liquor on Ebay, presumably to anyone, as long as you state they are being sold for the collectable decanters ONLY and NOT for the contents.
My question is that if it's that easy, WHY BOTHER in the first place?
The statement below is TRUE
The statement above is FALSE.

Here's part of their email:
Dear rodr5008,
We regret to inform you that your auction:
557083190 $100 Newport Medium Cigarette Coupons!!!!!!!!
has been ended at the request of Lorillard Tobacco Company, a member
of eBay's Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) Program, because
they filed a sworn statement that it offers a product or contains
material which violates their copyright, trademark or other
rights. In the interest of protecting all eBay users, we end
such auctions to avoid any association with potentially
infringing or unlawful items.
We understand that sometimes mistakes can be made. If
you feel your auction was ended in error, contact the VeRO
Program Member directly by emailing them at [email protected] .
Of course, eBay is available to answer questions, but since only
the rights owner understands their products and policies, we
encourage you to contact them first. If we agree a mistake has
been made or the VeRO Program Member notifies us, we will
allow you to relist the item.
We also understand that even if your item is infringing, you may
have been unaware of that fact, and may have listed the item with
the best of intentions. Unfortunately, even if this is so, you still
could face potential liability, so ending the auction is still
necessary.

Most likely what happened was anoyher ebay seller turned in all his competing auctions. As far as it being illegall to sell or transfer coupons, aren't you buying the coupon when you purchase the newspaper they are in? This is lorillard Co going after the "little guy" who can't afford a lawyer. really I mean if selling coupons is illegall wouldn't Coupon connection of America " who sell millions" been shut down years ago?

It would seem here that the tobacco companies are goading the little guy to sue them. Rumor has it that they employ a lawyer or two that aren't busy at the moment.

By the wording of the notice, and many seller's experiences which have been detailed on this board, it appears that the ebaY VeRO program chooses to defer to the VeRO holder's policies, regardless of other's legal rights. This makes VeRO itself a whole new area for abuse.

Since Kalifornia is mostly liberal I am sure Ebay is trying to "save" the children or some other crap like that and cancelled your auctions because cigarettes are bad... go figure.
I hope all of you Kalifornians re-elect your idiot liberal-democrat-enviro-wackos. Then you will be riding bicycles to work, and using oil lamps.
You can't smoke, you can't have a gun, you must have a car that meets their special emissions test, you have deregulated power (and have no power!) and you have Ebay... brilliant!

It is not just cig coupons, I to had a auction canceled for regular coupons that I do not use and just wanted to pass them onto someone who could use them, only charging $1.00 for my time. I was canceled for copyright infringment. But I had purchased coupons previous to this, and still find diaper, formula etc. coupons listed. Go figure. Fluffy

Here's what happened to me today. I read this post this morning, and never realized people would be selling these coupons.
So, I went to Ebay, did a search, found an open auction, bid, won, and paid for the Newport coupons.
After I won I did another search and found fewer auctions, but still some Newport auctions running as of right now.
If they cancelled yours, why haven't they cancelled them all? Can it be that hard for Ebay to do a search of 'Newport coupons' and then cancel the auctions? I don't get it...

Hey dinapal! I just wanted to say that I don't think that eBay checks many auctions. I once turned in a seller from Austrailia for trying to sell 100 pounds of hash! It's the only time I've ever turned anyone in, but it's obvious to me that eBay relies on buyers or other sellers to inform them of auctions that aren't allowed. I'm not saying that the cigarette coupons shouldn't be allowed, just that the auctions aren't screened. Cigarettes are legal, why can't we sell those? Just a thought

Hey JAKE. Haven't you heard?
Everyone was forced to leave Kalifornia because a Monk up in the Sierras filed a suit claiming everybody elses vibes were invading his Karma.
HE WON!!!:^)
With everybody else gone he moved into a mansion in the valley and as long as the pool heater is off, the fridge is set at 45 degrees and the AC is above 80 he has plenty of light to read! And get this.....he can turn on BOTH 60 watt bulbs AT THE SAME TIME!!!
