I have someone who just told me he wants me to sell 2 Civil War Cannons. Yes, cannons. He said they really shoot, and they are about 30 years old. Said they are replicas. He said one is quite large and the other one is smaller. He estimated their value at about $2500 for the larger one and about $1500-$2000 for the smaller one. And, he wants me to sell these for him on ebay.
How would you ship a cannon? Aren't these considered weapons? And would they even be allowed on ebay?
Do these estimated values sound right?
Any info you can give me would be very much appreciated!!

Ebay or net cops would likely find a way to shut down those auctions, if they weren't automatically considered banned because they are replica weapons. They really shoot, eh?
Anyway, someone who would buy these would probably be willing to come and pick them up, I would think. You could stipulate that buyer must either pick them up or arrange for shipment.

For shipping (and this has been mentioned in a few other threads) the best I've found is http://www.cratersandfreighters.com Very dependable, professional and they come to your house to crate and ship

If you look through ebay's completed auctions, you'll see that the prices are way lower than $1500-$2500. Although, I don't know if the items are comparable.

Hey, if you do end up buying them, would you please test them out on some of the eBay staff before reselling? (Just a fantasy I have)

About a year or so ago I was at an estate auction where authentic civil war cannons were auctioned. The biggest cannon was fired across a large field in a demonstration for all of the auction attendees. A civil war buff had flown out from Montana to Oregon specifically to bid on the largest authentic civil war cannon. He paid about $100,000 for it if I remember correctly. For shipping, because of the huge size and weight, he had to pay for an entire flat bed car on a freight train. He had to rent special equipment to get the cannon from the estate to the freight train depot, and then upon arrival in Montana he had to hire more special equipment. I was told at the auction the estimated cost of shipping was around $25,000.
