Auction ends last weekend...high bid is approx $105. High bidder's "co-worker" contacts me on Tuesday and say's XXXXX, the high bidder, had an emergency and won't be back in the office for a week or so. This is the second situation I've had in two weeks where I'm contacted by a co-worker with an excuse, so I'm a little curious. On the email from the co-worker is the company's name/address/phone number. On Friday, I decide to call and ask for XXXX, the co-worker, and lo' and behold, there is nobody there by that name. I then ask for XXXXX, my high bidder, and what do you know...she's there and has been in all week.

Shocking, right?

Anyway, I'm not sure what to do...obviously I'm going to file a NPB, but I was thinking I could have a little fun with this one...

Any suggestions?

So Julsey...did you TALK to your high bidder? I would have....if nothing else it should have been good for a little entertainment!

I didn't talk to her, Amy; I only talked to the receptionist who confirmed what I wrote above. I was a little bit caught off guard and just thanked the receptionist for the info.

But now, after chewing on it for a couple days...

Drop the bidders co-worker an e-mail and tell her you will be calling her tomorrow. Need to make sure its not a hoax. Explain that you had this situation about a month ago and was not legit and the sale fell through.
It will be interesting to find out what happens. If the receptionist now tells you she will connect you, tell her that "Thats great she works there. That is all I needed to know. But before you connect me can I speak to someone in personnel."
When personnel answers, tell her you are so & so from the Northeast Credit Union and need to confirm the employment of "friend" and that she has been working there for 2 years. When personnel says "nobody by that name works here" you can explain why you called & receptionist said yes they will connect you or hang up. If they say yes then ask why when you called on Friday no one had any record of this person. Please explain.
I love playing Devils advocate. You have 100% of the information and its fun to listen to people squirm and catch them in lies.

Or you can do the not so fun thing and wait until next week and get paid. At least you make the sale which is more important sometimes even though the bidders play games.
